One major free agent is back in the fold, with running back Antowain Smith signing a five-year contract, the team confirmed late Friday.

According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, Smith will get nearly $21 million, including a $5 million bonus. In his first season with New England Smith ran for 1,157 yards and 12 touchdowns. He was the first 1,000-yard runner for the Patriots since Robert Edwards in 1998.

In 2001 Smith earned almost $600,000 in incentives along with a $477,000 base salary and a $25,000 signing bonus.
