One of my good friends who gambles hasnt been doing well the last few weeks so he decided to "pay for some picks''. He used an internet site to find some picks from these guys who have "inside info". He and this guy decided that he would pay him half of his first weeks winnings. This man sid he wouldnt have to pay anything out of his pocket so the first week he won 8000 and the guy wanted 4000 which he gave him. THe next week he lost 8000 to his local bookie. He would of never got that in debt but he thought this guy was gonna help him out if he ever got in the negative. The guy said that he would give him a comp from Vegas if he sent out another 750 to him so he did that. He was so desperate for the money he was listening to this man. After he sent out the 750 the guy told him that he was suppose to split the comp with another client but the other client got a different comp and that my friend would have to pay another 750 to recieve his comp. My friend is know in debt over 9000 dollars from taking this guys picks and by sending him all the money did. My friend is wondering if he can get this man in any trouble for doing what he did or do you guys think he just got burnt and to deal with it? Does this happen alot with these guys who say they are the greatest handicappers and have inside info?

Billy S?..your friend dealt with a scam artist, I highly doubt anything can be done, I think the best thing is to deal with it and let it be a MAJOR lesson learned. It?s too bad things like this happen?.there?s far too many scum like this out there, but many bad decisions were made by your friend and he should deal with his mistake.

A few things:

1. First things first? you shouldn?t be gambling if you can?t afford to lose it.

2. If someone has ?inside info? , they?re full of BS. If they had inside info they wouldn?t be telling anyone else, they?d be playing the game for themselves. Heck, this person probably claims he has inside info on every game?..BS!

3. Don?t believe everything you hear! If a person is going to pay for any plays, the person should either have some prior knowledge about the handicapper or service. If you?ve never heard of the handicapper, make sure his record is documented at a legitimate monitoring site so any claims of how good their service is can be verified rather than taking their word for it on how great they are.

Again, it?s sad to hear stuff like this. Scammers like this give the legit services a bad rep? hope things work out ok. Bottom line, think before you act. Sounds like your friend shouldn?t have been gambling in the first place.

No offense but is your friend competent, to handle his own money? Sounds like someone should be appointed legal counsel to take care of this guy before he hurts himself or worse. I reccomend him wearing a helmet at all times.

I think if I added right he's only in debt 5500 and not 9000. Anyway, I don't think there's anything that can be done. Your friend learned a hard lesson, and hopefully he won't repeat it. I see below you are asking for a loan shark. Are u sure u aren't the "friend"?

well, what's worse, owing it to a bookie or owing to a loan shark? I think I'd take my chances with a bookie rather than a loan shark. How about if he just gets a second job delivering pizzas or something until he can pay it off?
