WTF is Pelosi thinking? I don't understand this one bit. I'm starting to think the highest ranking politicians in this country might also be the highest ranking morons. Considering the current political climate, how do you pull the trigger on this?

GOP Objects to Pelosi Choice of Jefferson for Slot on Homeland Security Panel

By DEVLIN BARRETT

WASHINGTON Feb 16, 2007 (AP)? House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who stripped embattled Rep. William Jefferson of his seat on a powerful tax committee last year, has decided to put him on the Homeland Security panel, infuriating some Republicans who charge he may be a security risk.

Jefferson, a Louisiana Democrat, was kicked off the Ways and Means Committee amid a federal bribery probe, yet still won re-election to a ninth term.

Pelosi is giving him a seat on the panel after Jefferson was outspoken in his criticism of the homeland security agencies that responded to Hurricane Katrina. His appointment must still be formally approved by the rest of the House Democrats.

The decision immediately came under fire from the top Republican on the committee, Rep. Peter King.

"It sends a terrible message," King, R-N.Y., said Friday. "They couldn't trust him to write tax policy, so why should he be given access to our nation's top secrets or making policy for national defense?"

"Members of the committee have access to intelligence secrets, plots here in the country, overseas, and people under suspicion. This shows how unimportant the Democrats think homeland security is," King said.

Jefferson's chief of staff, Eugene Green, called King's criticism "ridiculous and just politics."

"Representing New Orleans as he does, we're very concerned as to what happened in the wake of Hurricane Katrina," said Green. "It's just natural for the congressman to serve his constituents on a committee of this nature."

Jefferson, 59, is the subject of a federal investigation into whether he accepted bribes related to a telecommunications deal in Africa. The FBI's evidence against him includes $90,000 found in his freezer fodder for late-night talk show jokes but not funny to Pelosi, who had promised to run the most ethical Congress in history.

Pelosi stripped Jefferson of his seat on the Ways and Means Committee over objections from some members of the Congressional Black Caucus.

Meanwhile, the FBI's raid of Jefferson's congressional office ran afoul of lawmakers; Pelosi and then-House Speaker Dennis Hastert succeeded in having the seized material sealed, where it remains pending the outcome of Jefferson's legal challenge.

Is this a joke? Well, I USED to think she was not so bad. Great ethics example being set. Not to mention the fact that we now have an obvious criminal on the homeland security panel. No excuse for this bullshit.

You were forwarned she'd be the gift that kept giving.

Only positive thing she has done for her party has been diverting attention from Dean.

yep that rotten scream of joy from Dean truly sealed his fate.
As for this? It might be better to hear her reasons before jumping to conclussions but this is why and i will say it again we need a third party. It gets tough trying to argue with neocons when i have no party to defend but this. On paper this looks like a disgrace but so did the new plane. If this guy also took the 90 thou bribe as we are led to believe then convict his ass. What is the holdup?

Seems like a logical choice to join up with the rest of the republican homeland security politicos and contractors. He has shown the ability to take cash and hide it, so he should be able to work well in a bipartisan fashion.

That being said...(lol, somebody had to do it)...I agree it's a bad appointment in the wake of the ethics push. Worthy of criticism, for sure. Can't criticise on one hand, and say no big deal on the other. Bad move.

One of God's ways to display his wrath is merely to step back and allow us to do whatever we want.

After all, we have a free will.

However...

I've heard when God feels the need to make a correction, this action will occur so swiftly and so completely one will never realize they even had a will.

Any behavior which contradicts God's word is not only folly, it is very dangerous.

It's merely a matter of time.

Nobody likes the truthteller.

Praise the blessed name of Jesus.

I have to admit, the forum banter about these politicians is a little amusing.

Everyone trying to defend their point of view. LOL!

"What I said is more relevant than your dribble!"

"You said this and conveniently forgot to mention...."

"Oh yeah?"

"Yeah"

LOL!

"Oh Lord, please forgive them. They know not what they do".

Buddy now mentions God/Jesus/Lord nearly as much as DTB mentions Clinton.

Perhaps a Clinton vs God thread is warranted at this point. ....A final showdown. Liddell-Ortiz got nothin on this battle royale.

Right...Bush's boys made sure that nobody in this country could wager on any matchup with him involved in it. God AND Clinton (either one...) would be favored, I'm sure.

To be honest, I still don't know if wagering is a sin. Ehh, I take that back. I say yes. Creating odds ands such is just one of the devil's workshops. Hey, I handicapped and wagered for a long time. My rationale was that I was "problem-solving". No harm in that. LOL! Of course, If I tried hard enough, I could probably remember a time my daughter asked me to take her somewhere and I said I couldn't because I was busy handicapping. Innocent activity? Harmless? We all have a free will. Everyone gets to make their own choice.

I can just hear the thoughts now, "I don't have any children. Therefore, I will handicap whenever I want". Or....."I have children, but I am a mindful parent. Even though I handicap, my children always have enough of my time."

Free will.

I don't agree with politicians meddling in my affairs, but I no longer wager or handicap. That's what I choose to do for my life.

It is kind of interesting as I think about it. I'm actually happy I can't bet with Pinnacle anymore. It started a chain reaction of good things for me. I was never good enough to make online wagering worth it. Now the focus has gone into other things, one thing leads to another, and before I'm knowing it - I've actually made several life improvements.

I'm thinking we need to bring Raymond's obsession with BTJ into the octagon as well. I'm afraid that one will trump everyone .....sept maybe Scott's Trojan thingy.

So as it stands, the 4 challengers are:

Clinton (presented by DTB)
Jesus (presented by Buddy)
BeantownJim (Raymond)
USC Trojans (Scott)

...I know there are more contenders...

Maybe, but you are a recent phenominon. It might take 2 years of posting the way you have the last 2 weeks in order to prove you are into Jesus as much as Raymond is into Beantown Jim.
