I want to apologize to anyone that took ASU upon my reports and recommendation. I will never make an excuse for a loss, because a loss is a loss no matter how you chalk it up.

I would bet ASU again in the same situation. Turnovers are the X factor and sometimes we cannot make enough concessions for them.

But if you look closely:

21 of NU pts came via turnovers
2 blocked kicks
1 TD return

Neb only scored 27 offensive pts vs ASU defense and 2 of them were on a short field, and one was during "garbage" time. Neb had barely over 300 yards of total offense. Not exactly what you want to do vs. a team that gave up over 48 ppg on the road last year and was near the bottom of the Pac 10 in total defense.

If ASU would have been a little more disciplined they could have made an even better game of it. We were sitting pretty until about 5 min in the game. I am just real glad I got the under when it was at 59.

You can take my Husker reports with a grain of salt and I will always tell you that "inside" info never guarantees a win, but sometimes it can be helpful. NU played exactly like I said they would. I even said today that the only way they would cover this game is due to turnovers and cheap scores on a short field. We win some and lose some and again I apologize.

I think ASU is going to struggle a lot on offense this year. Nebraska will have a very good defense this year, but nonetheless I see ASU struggling to score points.

I told many of you about Jammal Lord earlier this summer. Granted he could not throw to save his life as part of that can be attested to very poor pass pro, and not a good sync with his receivers yet but this guy is definitely a gamer as he had the 2nd highest performance testing score on the whole team. I also told many of you that Diedrick and Collins are really not all that and that NU needs to play Josh Davis and Marquess Simmons much more.

Good luck to everyone the rest of the year, and I sincerly hope I didn't cost anybody too much money.

Ray

wasnt your fault....blame those lineman who cant block someone on a punt! They have an assignment on those punts...and they totally blew it...not your fault...ASU played well IMO

No apologies necessary, only I can bet my money. And there will be plenty of green made betting against the Huskers this year if they don't come up with some sort of passing game.

No apology please, DNO.

Your info actually helped me make $ on the gm. I played it like this:

small ArzSt(+22) L
strong UND 59.5 (early) W
(hedgeback) OV 54 (late) W
...More luck than anything w/ the late stuff, but your insights helped. Could see the move down on the total coming.

Thx and GL, man.

Don't apologize

Don't apologize

You're offering up your analysis to be helpful to people -- everyone knows you won't win every time.

Lord can really move and shake people outta their shoes, may be one of the best running QBs in the nation. If they had a passing game they would be really tough, but I don't know if they have enough to beat Texas or Colorado.

Blame the lineman? Blame the punter reading the serial number on the ball before he would take a step to kick it.

It sucks when you put yourself before the forum and things don't work out, but you told us that the defense was strong (they were), the offensive line couldn't block anybody (they couldn't) and the offense would be simple (it was).

There is nothing worse for a gambler than the double thud of a punt block when its your team punting. Those are the things that kill any handicapping of a game. And the 38 point victory only will make the line fo up next week as another Big 10 team lays another smack-down on a Big XII pretender.

Keep all the info coming, Ray, it is appreciated

what's new

what's new

this happens during the season... turnovers completely ruin a well handicapped game.

Nebraska need not worry about Texas.. they should focus on Troy State and Penn State...

Nebraska is like a "falling knife" not to be confused with the teams of a few years ago. They got lucky tonite...

Thanks for the support

Thanks for the support

Thanks guys, I am still rubbing my butt. It does indeed suck when you handicap a game correctly and it blows up in your face kinda like Enron stock. But I have been around long enough to know that I am going to win 4 or 5 games that I did not deserve to win as well. Comes with the territory.

frelancc: You are correct about NU. The talent level is nowhere close to those thugs that they had in the mid 90s, but the cupboard is not exactly bare. By creating the Big 12 it really hurt Nebraska the most, because of all the great players they used to get out of Oklahoma and Texas are now staying at home and Nebraska is starting to find some duds in places like Missouri, New Mexico, Arizona.

I would tell everyone on the board to grab Penn State and those 6 points and big, but there is no such thing as a lock. But if they bring that kind of game to happy valley they are gonna get throttled.

This will be a good team by the end of the year and they will be a factor in the Sears run next year, but they will be overpriced all year and lots of great opportunites to make money against them.

One side note: I still think people are giving Oklahoma waaaaay too much credit. Their offense is just as inept and a great defense will only take you so far, and they do not have a good kicking game either. I will say that Texas is the team to beat in the Big 12.

Good luck everyone!

no apologies needed, although I would like one from the special teams coach....I had the under at 56....needless to say the inability to block on punts isn't conducive to perserving unders :( Anyway, keep up the good work and great write-ups, I enjoy reading your insight...:D

I can imagine how bad that sucked for vagina backers. But I never feel as bad losing a college football game as I do when I lose a baseball bet. Cuz you know these kids are out there busting their butt . Maybe we should create a thread about "lucky wins" or "bad beats". It could be interesting.

lol well I would consider the UVA game a BADDD BEAT...very bad...TOs...Penalties....the inablilty to WRAP UP on a tackle...

The ASU game was a lucky win for Nebraska backers....how many times do you see 2 block punts in 1 game...HARDLY....

ASU has alot of good in them...I can tell that, Nebraska still sucks in my mind...they suck bad. I hope they are doubel digit favorites again and again..

No need to apologize DNO.

I jumped the under and it was the right play. Didn't bite on ASU as I thought this might happen, but it was the right play too. I try to remember that there are three facets to game O, D, and Spec Teams. I think both offenses were even tonite, but the difference was NUs def and spec teams played well. Hopefully the can fix some of the problems as I don't believe the cupboard is bare, but they need to fix some of personnel that are in.

Appreciate your insight.

oh well

oh well

when I left for best man duties for a wedding tonight, it was FSU 24-0 and half-time ASU down 10-3 .... I had teased ASU to 28.5 to Buckeyes and had 57 under, plus Bobby's boys ... I hoped to go 2-1 at worst, hehe

0-3

went 3-0 in nfl

couldnt post today, but thats life/even steven episode on seinfeld

D: you capped this game as well as all the others who loved the Under, it was just one of my many many lousy beats -- I come home late and watched replay of Huskers, under 8 Mins, i had 20 pts to play with ...

take care, pt1gard:confused:

Thanks again to all

Thanks again to all

Because I am such a loser and had nothing better to do (ok, babysitting really sucks and when he is awake I need to be awake) I watched the film from last night and here are some things that I can tell you in more detail:

As a whole the NU O-line was very bad but some spots hurt much more than others.

RT Dan Vili-Waldrop is one of the softest, weakest lineman to ever play at NU. He was William Joseph's bitch in the Rose Bowl, and he did not do much else other than lose a few pounds over the off season. His angles were terrible all night, and on plays where he needed to pull he was simply bumping people and not finishing it off vs. much smaller defenders. His is about as proficient as pass blocking as old people are at fuhking.

RG Wes Cody. Decent job but his is highly immobile. Does not get outside very well, but held his own for the most part.

C Jon Garrison. I was very suprised at how much this guy struggled as he could in terms of being a technician; be one of the best ever at NU. Whoever the NT was lining up against him, was regularly outquicking him. Which is really suprising to me, b/c this guy absolutely manhandled Tommie Harris last year.

LT Richie Incognito, needs to shut his trap and play a little more but the dude is very talented and did pretty well for a first time. Needs to work on his pass pro but that may come in time.

Judd Davies needs to take a seat to Steve Kriewald at FB period.

Now while nobody will accuse Jammal Lord of being Rex Grossman, he was running for his life all night. He will need to learn how to sit in the pocket a little and not always take off and run but I did say a couple weeks ago that he is NU's best offensive player hands down. I think he showed that again tonite.

I will also reiterate that I do not think that Diedrick or Collins are not very good at RB. Neither guy is a HR threat. They have really good talent at this pos but it is sitting on the bench. That Cory Ross did well, but he is not fast at all as he checks in with a 5.0 40. However he does have great feet and his "football" speed is good. They need to get Josh Davis in there immediately. If Marquess Simmons could catch a little better him too, cuz he can absolutely fly.

NU has some really fast WR that are sitting on the bench that they need to get in there to keep Def honest. Wilson Thomas is a very good player, but he cannot stretch a defense because his lack of speed.

They will miss not having Wistrom to bail them out at TE, because the TE they have now are primarily blockers and not an option to throw to. They are trying to avoid burning their stud FR redshirt Matt herian but may have to. He is a guy that runs electronic 4.67 40 and ws the Nebraska state champ in the 100 meters.
Solich sucked goat dick as a playcaller. He would have something that was working and then try to force others. He really needs to turn those reigns over to QB coach Turner Gill.

Teams have really caught on to something about the NU defense. While they significantly upgraded their talent in the front 7, the counter is still eating them up and I don't know why Koetter did not run it more than he did, cuz that long TD run came on that exact play. That is also what Colorado did to run them into the dirt and Miami ran that play with a lot of success as well. Their LB's overpursued a lot again tonite. That Demorrio Williams is a stud and as good as advertised. He can singlehandedly change a game. The safety I bitched about not starting Lannie Hopkins blocked a punt and is lethal on blitzes.

NU will definitely have to get it done early with special teams and an improving defense. Someone told me after some of their fall scrimmages that it was kinda scarey that P Kyle Larson was considered their best weapon.

As an avid NU fan, and former student of NU I obviously would love to defend my team when many make fun of them but they have not shown much to dispel those quips lately. If there is a year to jump on them this would be it. I will tell you that they really do have some great talent on their roster but not at the level of their glory years of the mid 90's. Solich does not have the balls to get the young talent on the field while they continute to reward "seniority". Seniority does not always win games. That is a big reason that a handful of very talented players transferred from NU over the spring and are on the verge of losing a few more. NU has an all-american caliber DE ready to walk but hopefully they can convince him to redshirt as he is leaps and bounds better than Demoine Adams.

RE Coach Nelson Barnes and DT Coach Jeff Jamrog are considered liabilities and need to be shown the door. Doubt Solich has the balls to do that too.

When I have the time I will provide more analyses not only on NU, but a few other teams that I have great insight on and actually know people that get to see them on a daily basis :
Colorado, Kansas State, Oklahoma, UCLA.

I may not always be able to provide a fancy gameday writeup but rest assured I do my homework.

Dynomyar,
I don't want to be redundent here but you know there is no reason to apologize.Say "my bad".But not I'm sorry. There is a difference.
Unless you are capping from the Cayman Islands on a patio outside your villa, skimming Corona beer caps into the Carribean,I can accept losing some games. We all lose games.Hopefully we only lose about 40%.And that might be streching it a few % pts
That's my dream someday. To make enough money doing this and spending my NY State teaching retirement money on a patio with a Corona on the beach. And maybe the cell phone might ring like the commercial and I'll skim that too.
Looking foward to your future picks.Keep them coming and give us 6 out of 10 winners. GL

PS I'm looking for some neighbors in the Caymans.I can retire in 5 yrs.But right now just have to watch that commercial....
