Just saw a Pete Rose special on Behind the Lines on Fox. Have two question for the forum.

Do you care if an athlete bets for his team?

and

Have you ever seen anybody who you thought was on the take to throw a game?

My votes are:

Quincy Carter against the Gamecocks last year. Suddenly gets an ankle injury and sits for almost the entire season and then the coach gets fired for a program out of control.

Number 7 and 54 on the UCLA defense on their last Rose Bowl team against Miami and Wisconsin.

Note that these are completely baseless allegations and maybe a little irresponsible and I have no facts to back them up and also note that I did lose on all three of the above games.

Anyone see the Philadelphia Eagles - Dallas Cowboys game back in 1993 I think it was. Anyway, that season they won their first Superbowl in the 90's.

To get to my point they (Dallas) were ahead in the game and emmitt smith fumbled the ball near their own end zone resulting in an Eagle victory. Can't remember what the point spread was but it was around 3-6 and I ended up losing cash on that game. It made me pissed off watching the cowboys dominate them almost the whole game in a closely fought battle to only see that happen in the last minute of the game, and it even looked fixed. Although I do not believe in the "fix" theory this is about as close as I have ever come to thinking a game was fixed. I guess you had to watch the game to know what I am talking about.

And "yes" I think it is not right for an athlete to bet on his team. These guys don't need to get any richer, from being on the team and in the league I am sure they know whats going on with other teams and if the handle they have on them that day matches up with the point spread or not. Plus, they could throw games quite easily and make a wad of cash - this would be an incentive. I am glad their are rules in place.

I think if he bet on his own team it's fine, if he bet against them he should be gone for good. The owner of a horse bets on his horse to win, Pete only bet on his team to win, which is what he is paid to do WIN.

I saw Eric Karros hit a majorleauge pop up to John Olerud on Saturday,Olerud dropped it and Karros barely made it to 1st.Pete Rose would have got to 3rd with his hustle.Jim Tracy should have called time and yanked Karros out of the game.Karros should be banned from baseball.Baseball is a joke anyway, the players patronizing before the game is disgusting.

I hope Roger Clemens beans some people tommorrow.

i think some funny things happen in the n.b.a. these guys all look at the point spreads the day of the game.i dont think they bet on the games these days there making to much money.however i think they get a kick out of the games being close at the end.dennis johnson here in boston back in the old days rumors were flying i can remember one game against philly at spectrum i was there celtics were favored by 6- 12 seconds to go celtics are up by 6 d.j. goes to the line misses both and starts laughing he did that a lot.i dont think they bet but i think they know wich way the moneys going and try harder to make it close to the spread.i hate the n.b.a. you could be favored by 10 be winning by 20 end third then these asshole coaches pull the starters they win by 8 funny things like this happen a lot.blame the coaches for fixed games there responsible.

somebody struck a nerve with me. How many times have we seen a guy go into the homerun trot and the ball hits the wall. Dude coasts into first base looking like an ahole.

Worse than that is the sacrafice bunter, usually a pitcher, who goes into the trot not thinking that the catcher fielding the weak bunt is thinking two. Pitcher gets thrown out for lolly gagging and you can bet Im always on the wrong end of that one. Funny how the bad beats always outnumber the good ones. When was the last time you had the guy that homered off the closer giving up the 4 in the ninth? lol

In response to Quincy Carter, I stated on a thread a week after that game that Quincy was probably not going to be back, and that there was no injury. From another Georgia player, he was not playing anymore due to problems with drugs. Also, one of the main reasons why Donnan got canned. He had no control of his players off the field.

About Emmitt. Even though he is a %*&ing Gator, I do not think he is the type to throw a game. Another thing, potential Super Bowl teams are not going to throw games. That's absurd!

Everyone has a right to their opinion. The Carter thing is just false, but the Emmitt incident I just disagree with.

About 15 years ago . . . more or less . . . I was very suspicious of Moses Malone. This was around the same time some of the Phoenix Suns got busted for shaving points for coke.

At the time I was actually on the house side of wagering and I will never forget a game Malone played in where the line was somewhere around -10.5 (been a long time so that may be off a litte).

It came down to the end of the game and with around a second left on the game clock one of Malone's teammates was fouled. They led by nine, but trailed by 1.5 against the spread at the time and if he made both free throws they would win by eleven and cover. I did not want them to cover because the action had come in heavy on the favorite.

First free throw . . . nothing but net . . . second free throw . . . nothing but net. Gag. I had just lost. HOLD EVERYTHING!

Moses Malone called for a lane violation for having his foot in the lane when the second free throw went up. No basket. Game over. I WON!

I still think Moses somehow did that on purpose although it is purely speculation on my part. I didn't care. Saved my bacon at least on that game. It also made me appreciate underdogs a whole lot more on point spreads. If there is shaving going on I want to be on the winning side.
