"It's better to get it over and done with but it has come at the wrong time of the year," said Lonard.
It will mean sitting out at least two events Lonard had intended entering on the US Tour and will diminish his chance of finishing top 30 on the money list to gain entry into the season-end Tour Championship and next April's US Masters.
"It's now going to have to make me work to get into the top 30, so if I can just bumble through this event and have a decent finish, I mightn't lose too much ground," he said.
