Every Friday, on ESPN radio's "The Dan Patrick Show", Phil Mickelson gives his NFL picks for the weekend.

Week One, he went 5-0
I forgot to check him out this week, but I did hear he was on the Niners tonight.

This is the same guy that took the odds on Baltimore to win the Superbowl last year. Needless to say, he cashed a huge paycheck.

I think his picks are worth considering...check out the show or if there's any interest, I could put them on the board.

I heard Phil on the show yesterday and he was 2-3 going into Monday night. He was pretty pissed off about losing three games. On Friday I happened to tune in as he was already discussing the games, I was shocked to find out it was him when the interview was over. He seems to know a good bit about the NFL.

I think anything like that can't hurt. I think people like that are worth listening to more than the actual sports reporters. If Phil says he likes a team, you know he has something riding on it. The reporters have to say decent things about all teams because they don't want to have it on record that they bashed a team and then the team have an all-star day.

I have liked how the pre-game shows have gotten away from this more and more. Like Jimmy Kimmel and his picks.

Well if he went 3-3 last weekend then that is pretty good considering. I heard he might take some time away from handicapping the PGA tour and focus on the NFL.

QUESTION:

When Mickelson gives his plays, is there discussion about the pointspread? Or, are the people at ESPN talking generically and simply picking the "winners" of games? I would be intereted to know this, since the NFL frowns upon any discussion of gambling or the pointspread.

Phil is a gambler, and I think the NFL is his specialty. When he calls in, and talks with Dan Patrick...he says who he is putting his $ on. This being said, they are talking about pointspreads.

Here in NE Ohio, its on 1240 am from 11 am to 3pm.

I will post his picks on Friday pm, or Sat. am.

check out espnradio.com then click on Dan Patrick Show

Berman takes the point spreads at ESPN, so I am sure Mickelson could.

Also -- Mickelson is a guy who will be on anything. He probably has more of a problem than anyone in here.

He got in trouble cuz he was offering 20:1 odds that Furyk would hole is bunker shot in the playoff with Woods about a month ago. PGA tour bluehairs were not too happy with that.

he's not just a golfer, he has been and will continue to be one of the best in the world. What is important here, is that he is very interested in what happens in the NFL on Sundays. If you've heard him, he definitely has a clue. Golfers are some of the most compulsive gamblers around. But i think Phil has alot of advatages that the ordinary guy doesn't. #1 Time....and talking to alot of different people. I hear his Football room at his house has 7 tvs. Thats what he said anyways. I wonder if he would mind if i took care of his wife while he was watching to see if his niners covered.

Just an opinion.

Bobby

I am a scratch golfer...I am a very compulsive gambler and will play anyone for anything (with my limited bank account this is not much)....but good golfers are great gamblers and love action.

I would respect Phil Mickelson's picks very much so.......

Bluegrass!
If ya don't know.....Most Golfers are very serious Gamblers! It wouldn't surprise me at all if each one of them has side bets with each other during tournaments. And come to think of it, I don't think I've ever played around without some dough on the outcome...

Pro golfers are Known to be generally cheap as they come. And phil has proven he is no different.I think if he knows his stuff, it would be nice to know his plays,I really won't run out and play HIS action,as we all know how to pick our own bad selections..It would be interesting, and sorry I got'dibbs' on Ammy when 'Lefty isn't around.Ha..Spanky..

Phil is a smart kid. I'd bet he is pretty sharp, as the big Ravens bet could attest. Maybe all the time off this fall isn't just for Amy and the baby!!!! It's pretty hard playing in the last group Sunday's and not being able to watch the games - I'd bet! I wonder if his caddy has a watchman.

BTW, I think the "he's cheap" chit is a CHEAP SHOT! I have recounted many times that I played craps at the Mirage briefly with Phil, almost next to him at the Pit, until Amy came to drag him away, and he was as generous to "the boys" with tokes as anyone! This BS about him not tipping on a FUTURES BET cash in is RIDICULOUS and likely bourne from jealousy or started by the CASINO that he beat! I have NEVER tipped over a sports bet and unless you are a regular looking for favors I think it would be WORSE and STUPID if he did tip someone. Who was he to tip? s/b mgr, please! cashier? for what? bellboy? It is a stupid knock and I SAW HIM TOKE CRAPS DEALERS WITH MY OWN EYES, so I refuse to let this silly story HANG like he is some cheap bastard. Many sports stars are, I have heard a lot of bad "credible" stories about Albert "Don't call me Joey" Belle when he was in Cleve, but I don't believe it of Phil based on what I saw. I also watched Fuzzy Zoeller play BJ at the Horshoe and he was drinking and smoking up a storm and toking very well, while losing his ass at a $25 table they reserved just for him. Dealers at the Mirage have told me that Rodman is a bad gambler and a cheapskate to boot, but they didn't have anything bad to say about Phil or Tiger when they dropped their names as playing there during the tourney!

While name dropping, I also played next to MJ's business mgr, and he introduced me to him - but I was too dumbstruck to say much. Also talked/played next to the guy who played Principle Belding on Saved By The Bell for about 20 hours one weekend before someone recognized him and asked for his autograph - I had no idea until then as I never saw it before and he just introd himself as Dennis. He was extremely nice and we had a running conversation going for three days at the same spots on the same table. He's also a good player. He said he plays there a lot, Golden Nugget, and gets comped everything. I've run into many celebs in LV. I LUV that town!

GL, and stop spreading the stupid PHIL IS CHEAP chit, he isn't!
