Pin placement on 18 yesterday?

I flicked back and forth between the race and the masters so I might have missed an explanation.

Did the announcers mention why the pin wasn't where it is EVERY OTHER SINGLE YEAR on 18? Am I mistaken? Isn't the pin down where weirsy put his approach every year?

it was a brand new pim placement, and the commentators were suggesting that it may make Weir's putt to tie more difficult, never having played to it before...

The exact pin placement on No. 18 was new this year. However, the top level has been used on numerous occasions on Sunday. Instances that come to mind are 1986 when Nicklaus charged past everyone, including Kite and Norman; about 10 years ago when Woosnam held off Olazabal and Watson; the year Seve won by several strokes and holed out his final shot from the back fringe; and I believe the year that Faldo beat Floyd in a playoff.
