BetCRIS Sportsbook Posts Odds on the 2006 Hurricane Season

April 19, New York ? With less than six weeks before the start of the 2006 hurricane season, individuals along the coast are stocking up on essential items and taking ?the calm before the storm? quite seriously.

The record-shattering 2005 Atlantic hurricane season may have only been the start - as all signs point to another severe season. Although the strength and number of hurricanes is impossible to predict, leading analysts at BetCRIS.com Sportsbook took time out from sports to assign a probability to nature.

CATEGORYS BASED ON THE SAFFIR/SIMPSON CATEGORY SCA

WILL A CATEGORY 3, 4 OR 5 HURRICANE HIT USA MAINLAND IN 2006?

YES 1 to 5
NO 3 to 1

WILL A CATEGORY 3, 4 OR 5 HURRICANE HIT FLORIDA IN 2006?

YES 1 to 1.25
NO 1 to 1.25

WHAT WILL BE THE NUMBER OF CATEGORY 3, 4 OR 5 HURRICANES TO HIT USA MAINLAND IN 2006?

ZERO 3 to 1
ONE 2.75 to 1
TWO 2.25 to 1
THREE 2.50 to 1
FOUR 2.50 to 1
FIVE 7 to 1
SIX OR MORE 15 to 1

?While clients can certainly bet on the likelihood of a hurricane, our intention was to review the shifts in annual weather patterns and determine the likelihood of another difficult hurricane season,? said BetCRIS.com?s CEO, Mickey Richardson. ?From our perspective, 2006 is not going to be a good year for Florida or the rest of the Gulf Coast.?

Ask people from New Orleans or in the area if you think it's a good idea to bet on those... :nono: :sadwave: Personally, i think it's very sick or bad taste to bet on having an hurricane or not... :nooo:  :mj02:

Kinda low in my opinion. Can you Imagine wathcing the weather and hoping a storm strengthens to a CAT 3 or higher and hoping it hits Florida so you can cash in?? Meanwhile peoples lives are at risk, and are being uprooted from there homes.

I'm degenerate gambler, but come on.

Reminds me of the props involving death tolls in the War in Iraq. Sick that they are offered, and probably sicker that there is a demand for it. Who thinks they can 'cap" our casualty count?

as lucy said, i expected it to be wagerweb when i opened the post. obviously, there was a whole messy debate last week with jack getting upset about people ripping the sponsor for posting odds on the duke rape trial. i have to admit im very surprised that its a reputable book like cris posting this shit. i know pinnacle has weather props, but they are (as far as i know) for stuff like "highest temp" or "most snowfall" -- pretty innocuous stuff.

maybe its just me, but im insulted as a gambler when books try and offer this kind of shit. the sportsbook is tacitly saying "how low will our players go to have action on something". because thats really what it is. the books are trying to stand out from the pack by offering something no other book does. for some reason, these idiots think this is good marketing when all it really does is keep players away. sure you'll have the total degenerate loser throwing 10 bucks on one of those stupid props just so he can laugh and tell one of his buddies "guess what i just bet on". but those kinds of bets are insulting to the intelligent gambler who isnt pathetic enough to bet stuff that is killing people or affecting lives.

the day i see this shit at olympic or pinnacle is the day i stop placing bets online. i dont think that day is near because those two books are way too smart for that shit. but ya never know because from wagerweb, you expect that trash. but betcris? thats a little scary because theyre very good.

i said you should be ashamed to have wagerweb as a sponsor.

looking back on it, my choice of words could have been better because it looked like a personal attack on you.

that wasnt my intention and i apologize for the poor choice of words.

that being said, i DO think that kind of stuff makes you look bad as a sponsor, especially when you put the advertisement up on your website.

again, this isnt a personal issue at all.

i just cant see how that advertisment enhances the image of either madjacksports or (in that case) wagerweb.

i really feel that it cheapens everything youre trying to do here. i know its never easy to tell someone paying your bills that youre not going to run an ad. but i guess i just feel that as a professional, the image of your site is worth more than pissing off a half-ass book like wagerweb if you said that you werent comfortable advertising that kind of stuff.

you run the best forum on the net, so i think you DO have leverage to use good judgement and tell them youll be happy to run a more tasteful ad with a current promo. if they want to offer those odds, let them do it. but i just dont think it enhances YOUR image or encourages people to click on YOUR banners, which is the whole point of having a business relationship with them.

again, i really apologize for wording my original post last week as poorly as i did. id like to think you can understand where im coming from, as well as some of the other people in the thread voicing opinions along the same line.

maybe what im trying to say, actually, is that these are the kinds of ads that cater to the true degenerate.

... and even though this is a forum of thousands, the majority on this site (compared to your competition) are respectable guys/girls who are more offended than impressed when a book runs that kind of ad.

THIS is the reason i got upset.

YOU ripping ME for having a sponsor you don't like.

there is nothing in that thread indicating that i was "upset about people ripping the sponsor for posting odds on the duke rape trial."

you're pushing me, gman, you're really pushing me.
