RECORD: 1-0- and a Wisky (+1 Unit)

Cough, Cough, bullshit on the UNLV game, but the Wisky betters will get a good break somewhere down the line. What goes around comes around. Anyway...

VaTech (-6.5) at home against LSU.
I am not impressed with Matt Mauck. He was the SEC title game MVP, after coming in for Rohan Davey, but he just doesnt do it for me. Add in the fact that LSU lost their all-world reciever, Josh Reed, who Mauck looked for in that SEC game to bail him out. Them having to throw to win, sets up nicely for VaTech, who has a top 10 secondary in the country. They will not be afraid to rattle Mauck putting 8 in the box and blitzing, and leaving the covers with man-to-man coverage. Also, VaTech has a game under its belt (remember Colo St. yesterday) and an outstanding rushing attack that needs no write-up. I look for Va Tech to either score on an interception or set up nice field position. Add in VaTech at home fav is 35-26 and they are 18-9-1 ATS against non conference foes, and 16-9-1 ATS prior to a bye. ( I look at trends to support, not just for plays) I see the final score being right around the total, 30-17 VaTech.

Well, Mauck is worse than I thought. I dont think he is going to last the season in Baton Rouge. Here is hoping that VaTech hangs on and there are no power outages:moon:

Louisville at home (-13.5) against Kentucky.
Jared Lorenzen, Kentucky's QB, reported to camp near 300 lb. His usual fighting weight is 275, and he said he wanted to get to 265 before the season. That obviously didnt happen. They have been pounded with sanctions and probation from Hal Mumme and still suffering from their lack of scholarships and lack of talent. On top of that they lose there 6 top tacklers on defense. Their running game is average, and their special teams is really good, esp. their punter. However, that isnt going to be enought to stop the Louisville attack headed by future 1st rounder and heisman hopeful, Dave Ragone. The RB and WR are very solid, even though they lost WR Branch to the NFL. The biggest question is the O-Line, and that is a concern, but not against Kentucky, who doesnt have the bullets to fire at Louisville. The O-Line is probably going to be a problem for Louisville but not here. John Smith, Lousiville's coach, has had 1 losing season in 10 years, and has had the whole year to prepare for Lorenzen and the Wildcats. ;) Louisville will score early and often here while the defense should hold the Cats under 20. Final score, 36, 17, Cardinals. (1 unit play) GLTA
