THE FIRST WORD
Two season ago in the NFC Championship game, the Bucs seemed to have figured out how to stop the Rams' offensive machine. Tampa Bay lost, but held St. Louis to 11 points. But now the Rams have surged ahead of the pack again, and Bucs coach Tony Dungy said it's because the players are the same. "They've kept their same core group of guys, and that has allowed them to do more things," he said. "They are doing more with (Marshall) Faulk. Az Hakim, they are doing more with him, running options and he's throwing the ball. They've got more stuff in for (Torry) Holt. ... They've stayed a little bit ahead of the bar by adding. Just as you think you kind of know what they are doing, and that you're catching up to them, they add some more wrinkles."
DID YOU KNOW?
The Bucs are 4-4 on Monday Night Football, 3-2 under Dungy. They have won two of their past three.

WHEN LAST THEY MET
Arguably, it was one of the most memorable Monday night games. Unlike the defensive struggle of their championship game the year before, the 2000 version ended in a down-to-the-wire 38-35 Bucs win at Raymond James Stadium. Running back Warrick Dunn finished with 198 yards from scrimmage and scored three touchdowns, and Keyshawn Johnson added seven receptions for 116 yards and two touchdowns. The Bucs needed it all to offset a brilliant effort by Faulk, who finished with 132 yards from scrimmage and four scores. John Lynch's interception of a Kurt Warner pass in the final seconds sealed the win.
MAKES YOU GO HMMMM!
The Bucs are averaging 80.2 yards per game (29th in the NFL) which, if maintained, would set a franchise low for running futility. The 1985 team (2-14) averaged 102.8 yards. ... The Bucs have used 174 plays through 18 touchdown drives. Of those plays, 110 have been pass plays and 57 have been runs. Seven have been sacks. ... It's not only on defense that the Rams have familiar faces. Returner/receiver Yo Murphy, who played for the Bucs in 1999 and 2000, is also with the Rams. ... St. Louis has converted 50.4 percent (57 of 113) of third-down opportunities. The Bucs have converted 35.2 percent (44 of 125).
TRIVIA ANSWER
C. Jamie Duncan. Duncan has 79 tackles, 10 behind Derrick Brooks. Lynch is third on the team with 68 and Barber fourth with 49.
THE LAST WORD
"I think you play the best offense and the greatest show on turf, you have to relish that opportunity as a defensive player. You have to beat the best to be the best. They are the best and they put you in a bind. They have mismatches all over the field and they have skilled people that can run like the wind and a quarterback that can put it in their hands." -- Bucs defensive tackle Warren Sapp on the Rams.
