Well I too am a fat, lazy slob, and should come to the defense on James Toney. It's not always clear how prepared someone is by their body, a lot of energy in the ring is determined by your emotions and thoughts, which is why relaxed fighters like Toney have surprising stamina while nervous fights like Wlad burn out quickly.
At 140 I used to tire quickly despite being in tremendous shape, now at 210 I eat anything under 2$ and dont do any cardio, yet can outlast opponents easily in the rare occasion I box. It comes down partially to confidence in your chin, experience and understanding your body. The times that I had extra padding helped a lot defensively, most of it psychologically-based. Fighting on the inside felt more natural, throwing punches took less exertion and thought, I had more confidence in my power and spent less energy worrying about if I was covering up especially around the liver and shoulders, the extra meat felt like armour.
Of course im not a pro and I don't fight anyone near the level of Rahman, but the scale really isn't prophetic. Toney may still be eating funnel cakes for breakfast, but it's too tough to predict how hard he's training based on that fact. You would have to have strong insight into his camp, and most importantly, watch how his stamina and punch output hold up in sparring.
If the Toney lines rises I might take a stab at it, just out of support for my lazy, bowling-ball shaped idol.
