Thanks to Marshall Kauffman, Rock's conditioning coach:

"Rahman 244 Toney 226 Although there did appear to be a problem with the scales. Both weighed in 6 pounds lighter on another scale. But official weights were R 244 T 226"

"No link. I was there. Toneys body did not look good. Lots of loose flab n skin. Like he lost a lot of the muscle. I am very confident that he is not on any roids this time."

(regarding doug fischer's report on how great toney's sparring and conditioing has been):

"Yeah I watched that sparring on maxtv. It was obvious edited sparring footage. Toney looked the same there that he did at the weighin. He looks like a guy that had a dramatic weight loss in a short period of time which is always indicative of muscle loss. Which explains the loose looking skin."

"Yes it is normal when its dramatic, fast, and unhealthy weight loss. The kind that comes from poor diet, lotsa cardio, and muscle loss. When you lose weight gradually through a proper diets and good training the body uses tha fat for energy, and the weight loss comes at a pace so as the kin can accomodate."

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

still no play for me, but perhaps big money comes in on Rahman as a result of the weigh-in, maklng a scalp?

Well I too am a fat, lazy slob, and should come to the defense on James Toney. It's not always clear how prepared someone is by their body, a lot of energy in the ring is determined by your emotions and thoughts, which is why relaxed fighters like Toney have surprising stamina while nervous fights like Wlad burn out quickly.

At 140 I used to tire quickly despite being in tremendous shape, now at 210 I eat anything under 2$ and dont do any cardio, yet can outlast opponents easily in the rare occasion I box. It comes down partially to confidence in your chin, experience and understanding your body. The times that I had extra padding helped a lot defensively, most of it psychologically-based. Fighting on the inside felt more natural, throwing punches took less exertion and thought, I had more confidence in my power and spent less energy worrying about if I was covering up especially around the liver and shoulders, the extra meat felt like armour.

Of course im not a pro and I don't fight anyone near the level of Rahman, but the scale really isn't prophetic. Toney may still be eating funnel cakes for breakfast, but it's too tough to predict how hard he's training based on that fact. You would have to have strong insight into his camp, and most importantly, watch how his stamina and punch output hold up in sparring.

If the Toney lines rises I might take a stab at it, just out of support for my lazy, bowling-ball shaped idol.

What did people expect for Toney ?

He hasn't fought in more than a year and will be 40 next month. That's a hell of a break. This after being caught roiding in a performance he should have lost.

Rahman has to be the favourite in a 12 rounds fight.

not often that i get to trot out the word "trenchant".....but,this might be the time....

a disturbing,yet riveting read....

i had a similar initial reaction....but,he does look fat...."theres 10 year old crumbs in that belly button" fat.......

but,if anybody can pull it off,it`s james.....

still,i flipped and grabbed hassim at -125....

i wagered so little, that i may still root for "lights out"...he was wearing some natty spectacles in those photos...

i had to google trenchant before realizing its a compliment lol, thanks gw.

the first fight that coems to mind in the body being deceitful was bowe-golota 2, bowe looked like a million bucks but fought like a man with no kinesthetic awareness. his legs were wobbly and unaccustomed to his frame, which is why he spent so much time on the ropes for blanace, his coordination and timing was terrible, he seemed malnourished and dehydrated, and uncomfortable with himself. the fat bowe at least seemed relaxed and experienced with his weight, as if he trains and spars regularly like that and knows how his body will respond.

anyway im getting a bit off topic, id just suggest caution for anyone betting based by the scales.
