Sorry to here that wareagle normal seizures are not fatal to a dog but, like you said something else may be causing them.My sisters dog had them since it was a puppy and is fine and on medication.Great looking dog good luck.

update:

as write this i am barely holding back from crying after reading all your posts...your prayers have helped me, my wife, and Gus tremendously!

he had his last seizure at 9am this morning and hasnt had one since then(since i posted here). he is still in pretty bad shape, but then again you or i would if we would be if we would have been on barbituate sp? and valium drip for two days. we took him from the vet to the overnight clinic for his 3rd night there. hopefully he will go through the night without having another.

Tommorrow we have set him up to have a cerebral sp? spinal tap to help find the cause for this. if that turns up nothing i guess the next step is an MRI. I dont know the long term effect of what he has been through ie vision/hearing/brain ect...I feel a little better about him, but he is still a long way from even coming home and licking my face like he loves to do. We have to find out why? what? or how? these are occuring.

Again THANK YOU MADJACKS for your well wishes and prayers!

They have helped and will continue to, so please dont forget about the little guy!

I'm glad to hear they have subsided, hopefully for good.

I'm writing this as my Cat, Murphy is on his last breath. I understand your pain. This is going to be hard.

Hang in there bud, went through similiar circumstances twice in the past five years and it never gets better! I am hoping that it is minor and Gus is able to continue to bring joy to you and your wife!

thanks again guys!

Update:

Gus hasn?t had a seizure since the 29th. The total was 17 massive seizures in a three day span. He has suffered extensive damage due to trauma amongst many other things that he has been through. We still have NO cause for this. Bloodwork, observation, and a cerebral spinal tap has yielded zero results as far as a cause. It appears that he has a bad case of idiopathic epilepsy. He is not the same dog he once was, everything he learned from obedience to training he has lost. He will have to be on medication (Phenobarbital) for the rest of his life. It affects him by making him ALWAYS hungry, thirsty, and lethargic.

it has been real tough on my wife and I, not to mention him...we are taking things day to day and he seems to be getting better each day. they say he is 80% to have a serious relapse...we are just in a wait and see mode with him....

Thanks again

I hope Gus is still doing better. My friend had a Yellow Lab that had seizures as a pup and had the take seizure meds for the rest of her life. She had to be put down a few months ago, nothing to do with the seizures, but severe arthritis due to old age (12 y/o). She lived a perfectly normal life thanks to the meds.

Why am I chuckling when I am reading this???
Did someone actually compare your dog plight to their cat???
This is a dog man..
My pops went old yeller on mine as a kid and well quite frankly
his explanation always stuck with me..
"Its a fu@#ing dog, "
For what its worth I hope the dog pulls through..
But I hope the cat doesnt make it..hate those things..
