The 12-13 Villanova Wildcats are at home to take on the 13-13 Butler Bulldogs. Tip is 8:00 pm. Nova is -9.5/129.5. Butler has won two straight with their last over a ranked Xavier squad on Friday. The Wildcats have won two straight beating Seton Hall by 4 on Saturday.
Butler is an in your face defensive squad who is not noted for high scoring games (last 5 have been unders). They beat the Wildcats 79-71 on January 13 in Indianapolis. That scoring burst was their second highest of the season. Since that game, Manny Bates (6’11” Sr) is now playing for Butler and Justin Moore is now playing for the Cats. In their previous matchup, Lukosius scored a career high 28 points for Butler (he’s scored 20 or more once since then). Guard Chuck Harris (11.7 ppg) has been out their last two games but should be back tonight. Jayden Taylor will be a thorn in Nova’s side as he averages 12.5 ppg and shoots over 41% from deep. Nonetheless, Butler is 3-9 on the road and just looks out of sorts offensively away from Hinkle Fieldhouse.
For Villanova, Daniels and Dixon continue to share the scoring burden with Whitmore improving each game. Justin Moore still hasn’t found his shot. Last game, he really was off. Longino is back from a leg injury but did not look all that effective last game. Hopefully, he’ll improve this evening.
What Will Happen
Most analysts are expecting a low scoring affair and pretty much no one trusts Villanova as a close to double digit favorite….except for me. My belief is Nova’s Moore will drive inside tonight for points. He, Dixon and Whitmore will eventually foul out a couple of Bulldogs who have really no bench. Butler will not have a big scoring outburst and will be in the 50’s. Villanova will finish strong and win by 10-15 by game’s end.
