The Wildcats do battle one more time in the Battle 4 Atlantis. This time in the Championship game vs the 5-0 Memphis Tigers. Nova is -3.5/145.5. Tip is 3:30 pm eastern on ESPN. Memphis, behind David Jone’s 36 points, disposed of Arkansas 84-79. Villanova defeated North Carolina 83-81 in OT as Eric Dixon poured in 34 points.
Memphis has height and speed. They will try to speed up the game of Villanova. Defensively, they use their quickness to disrupt opponents offenses. David Jones who previously played for DePaul and St. John’s had a career game vs Arkansas. Jourdain for Memphis went 5-5 with 3 of those from deep. Lastly, Jahvon Quinerly at guard played for Villanova before transferring to Alabama and then Memphis. He’ll be trying extra hard. The Tigers live on the 3 point line making over 9 per game. Their team is predominantly comprised of all transfers.
For Villanova, they won a game where Carolina out rebounded them, shot better from the field, made more from 3 and had 4 blocks to 1 over the Cats. But Nova feasted on the foul line making 88%. That was the difference. Today, Dixon will not score 34 again but he will be a factor. Memphis will try not to foul but that’s tough vs. the Cats.
If Villanova is to win, they have to shoot much better than yesterday. They need to take their game inside and get to the foul line. They’ll need to create turnovers while taking care of the ball. These are all within their capabilities. Memphis beat Arkansas who was coming off of a Double OT win. Nova is coming off of an OT win.
This will be another close game. Scoring will be more balanced for both teams than yesterday. Look for Villanova to take charge with 4 Minutes to go and win this game.
