It’s Senior Day on the Villanova campus as the Wildcats welcome in the 13-15 Butler Bulldogs. Tip is noon eastern on Fox. Nova is -6.5/144.5. These teams met on January 1 with Nova taking a 73-65 win as they erased a 13 point deficit with just over 5 minutes to go.
The Finnegan Pavillion will be rocking as they honor their Seniors but most notably one of the most prolific scorers in Villanova history, Eric Dixon. The 17-12 Wildcats still have dreams of making the Big Dance but realistically they need to get to the Big East finals if not win it. To do that, the easiest path would be to finish 5th in the Conference and get a bye in the first round. They need to win their last two games and hope Creighton beats Xavier.
Butler has only beaten the doormats of the Big East Conference while Nova has beaten each and every team ahead of them. The Bulldogs are led by Telfort who dropped in 25 vs Nova on January 1. Pierre Brooks is solid at 15.6 ppg. Their sharpshooters are Finley Bizjack (44% from 3) and Pat McCaffrey (40% from 3). Butler likes to shoot the 3 and Villanova doesn’t defend the 3 well. The Cats defend the 2 well where the Bulldogs don’t.
Last out, both teams shot the ball horribly. Nova vs Seton Hall and Butler vs St John’s. I expect they will reverse themselves today. Nova is tough at home and, on Senior Day, they should win this game.
