Nova Report
The 7-7 Villanova Wildcats are in the Nation’s Capitol to take on the 5-10 Georgetown Hoyas at 6:30 pm eastern. Nova is -9.5/141.5.
The Hoyas have lost 23 straight Big East Conference games (0-4 this season). They have 8 transfers and 2 freshman and, like Nova, is still trying to figure out their ideal combinations. Spears (16 ppg) came from Duquesne, Murray (15.5) ppg from LSU, Wahab (11.1 ppg) from Maryland but before that from Georgetown and Akok Akok (6.9 ppg) from UCONN are the main scorers. Their best Big East game was an 11 point loss to UCONN. Their team is streaky shooting wise, can go on scoring droughts and turns the ball over.
On the Villanova side, they still struggle with the press and can go on droughts also (3 points in the last 5:30 in a 2 point loss to Marquette). However, Georgetown is the weakest Big East opponent they will face. It’s a pretty much a must win if the Cats have any dreams of making the Big Dance.
What Will Happen
The Hoyas shot so poorly last out that they are likely to reverse that trend today. Similarly, the Cats 2nd half last out was brutal from a shooting perspective. Look for both teams to press and create turnovers as well as get uncontested breakaway scores. It’s tough to lay 9.5 on the road with Nova against anyone. I really think we’ll see some scoring tonight.
My Nova Pick: Over 141.5
