Several people were arrested on Super Bowl Sunday after police busted a multimillion-dollar illegal gaming enterprise in the Thornhill area.
Police say they executed a search warrant at an invite-only gambling event held at Le Parc Banquet Hall near Leslie St. and Regional Rd. 7.
?All I can say is this was an ongoing illegal gaming enterprise,? said Const. Blair McQuillan of the York Regional Police. ?The investigation is still ongoing at this time, several arrests were made and the material seized will be release in the press conference (Monday).?
The Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU), a unit dedicated to organized crime, said in a news release that the ?investigation revealed the illegal gaming enterprise was allegedly run by organized crime groups.?
Platinum SB, an online sports-book and casino, is alleged to be the organizer of the gambling event. Platinum SB?s website had been shut down by police, bearing a note Sunday night that stated, ?The web site you are trying to access has been restrained by court order granted to the Attorney General of Ontario with the assistance of the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU).?
There was currently no word late Sunday night on the number of people arrested or what charges will be laid.
