Dan Wiederer of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports Joe Webb is "looking more likely" than Christian Ponder (elbow) to start Saturday night's Wild Card game against the Packers.
It's become apparent Saturday that Ponder's elbow bursitis didn't improve despite essentially taking the entire practice week off. The Vikings simply can't afford to start a quarterback with an injured throwing arm in sub-freezing weather. Wiederer concedes there's still "no final word," but one will come down by halftime of today's Bengals-Texans game. Vikings-Packers has an 8PM ET start, so inactives will be available no later than 7ET.

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Based on what I can see on social media, many of you have been whipped into a frenzy by discussion of Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder's sore right elbow. Before heading over to Lambeau Field, I just wanted to reiterate that we have no evidence that Ponder will miss Saturday night's wild-card playoff game against the Green Bay Packers.

Ponder
Here's what we do know: As we discussed Friday night, Ponder's injury is worse than your basic bump and bruise. In fact, Tom Pelissero of 1500ESPN.com reported Ponder has bursitis, an injury that Ponder dealt with while in college at Florida State which can lead to fluid buildup and reduced flexibility.

I haven't been able to find anyone connected with the Vikings who thinks Ponder won't start the game. I can't rule out that possibility, however, and FoxSports.com's Jay Glazer reported that the Vikings' three quarterbacks -- Ponder, Joe Webb and McCleod Bethel-Thompson -- will head to Lambeau Field early to make a final determination.

This story sneaked up on us mostly because the injury didn't subside over the course of the week, as everyone seemed to expect it to. I'll be at Lambeau Field soon and will report whatever I find out. But again, it would be a quick turn of events if the injury prevents Ponder from starting.

Must be drinking beer already, eh, BP? Calling the Packers names is very unsportsmanlike! Very Viking-fan-like, however.

I bet on your Vikes!

On the course!
One thing about the Packers.....they usually don't play well against QBs they haven't prepared for.

There's your chance Viking fans!

joe webb throws the ball as bad as ponder and will hand off as much.....nothing additional needed to prepare for.
