What's ironic is that without the intervention of the USA, the people of France would be speaking German today.

ist es nicht richtig?

I seriously doubt Germany could have held France for 70 years, with or without the USA. But it could possibly be a good debate. Our "we saved the world from the nazis" thing is stale, irrelevant at this point, and really just makes us pricks.

What's relevant is that American lives were lost saving the asses of people who cheered the arrival of the Nazi occupiers and then cheered again when the Americans liberated them.

That's one way to look at it. Either way, it was 3 generations ago. Time moves forward. We aren't a perfect enough civilization to endlessly boast about that tremendous effort. Yeah, I'm sure there are plenty of appreciative people in France and the rest of Europe. To them, we don't need to keep railing the same point. To those that aren't, they never will be.

Well I can appreciate your arguments. But your reasoning could be applied to letting the slavery issue and the holocaust issue go too.....because it was "so long ago", and we have come so far with acceptance and tolerance that it isn't relevant anymore.

Totally agree. Selective memory/outrage/appreciation seems to be a human nature. And we could choose to remember how much France helped us in our own fight for independence if we wanted to. But we certainly don't have to.

This country hasn't been "hard working", for quite some time.

Plenty of hard working going on. But hard work doesn't guarantee a person anything. I certainly don't disparage a people who place value over some quality vacation time.

Absolutely. But I don't aquiesce. While some French resisted the occupation, many, many more ala Drieu La Rochelle coerced French citizens to collaborate with the Nazis and then screamed for America to liberate them. Then, after the war, resumed their shit flinging at America.
