Possible NFL rule change.

NFL clubs today received updated playing rules change proposals.

Most interesting: an alternative to the onside kick that would allow a team a chance to maintain possession by going for it on 4th-and-15 from their 25-yard line. Sounds like support for the idea is growing.

The Eagles have proposed a rule that would give teams an alternative option to the onside kick. Instead of trying to recover an onside kick, teams would have the option of attempting to convert a fourth-and-15 play from their own 25-yard line. If they get the 15 yards, they get a first down and keep possession of the ball. If they don't get the 15 yards, the other team would take over possession from wherever the play ended.
For the rule to pass, 24 of the NFL's 32 owners would have to vote on it at their next meeting, which will be held virtually on May 28.

Sounds like it could make the game more exciting, at least the last part of games where things can really get hectic. The odds of making the 4th down conversion are probably better than the odds for converting the onside kick?

I'd prefer "If they don't get the 15 yards, the other team would take over possession at the 50yd. line."

Or

"If the team cannot complete a single TD pass/run....turn over with no first down possibility."

Or

I don't like the rule. I have a feeling we will see it this coming season then thrown out after the season.

I know one team that will use it whenever he gets the chance. :facepalm:

Just another way to get fucked towards the end of the game. Isn't the last 3 minutes hectic enough,with all the mistakes by referees with bogus flags and missed calls?
