Fairfield +2 at Harvard
I live 10 minutes from the Fairfield campus. It's a small Jesuit school but they take their hoops fairly seriously. Their most famous game is a close NCAA loss against UNC in the 1-16 game like six years ago. Anyway, this is the fourth year for coach Tim O'Toole and he hasn't done shit. However, he had a strong recruiting class, including Ajou Deng, a UCONN transfer (but he's not eligible until Jan). But he also got the Deng's cousin 6-10 Deng Gai, who most MAAC coaches say belongs at a Top 25 school. So basically, it's now or never for this guy and in the paper they sound real anxious to show they're gonna challenge for MAAC title. Harvard is a so-so Ivy League school that should get slightly overpowered by Fairfield's frontcourt, which also includes a Player of Year candidate in Sr. Sam Spann. It's no major step out play or anything, but I'm surprised Harvard, who graduated their best player from last year, is favored, even at home.
