I have spent the last two days looking at this fight and have come to the determination that I really like the Russian to win this fight.
He has fast hands and much like Evander throws punchs from all angles. The power is there.
He is closer to home than Chambers and it should be a overwhelming crowd support for Alexander.

On the other side of it, Chambers is a crafty fighter who will counter. He does not have the power he needs to knock the russian out.

I have watched his defense and he is hard to hit and punchs out of his defense. If he stands in the middle of the ring then this fight is over by KO.

I believe Chambers will move to the side constantly and frustrate the young russian.

Chambers has not fought anyone of note, but is unbeaten and his ring experience should carry him past the 9.5.

At least thats what I am hoping will happen.

I hate it when its this easy.

Though born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania,

Eddie H. Chambers has been adopted by the city of Philadelphia and is following in the great tradition of Philly fighters.

Known as "Fast Eddie" for his lightning fast prowess in the ring - especially for a heavyweight -- Chambers (30-0, 16 KOs) has become a regular fan favorite at the legendary Blue Horizon in the "City of Brotherly Love".

In fact, after winning his first nine bouts in Pittsburgh and vicinity, Chambers fought 17 straight times at the Blue Horizon before appearing on a Goossen Tutor-promoted show in Reno, Nevada back in August, where he stopped highly-regarded Domonic Jenkins in five rounds.

Chambers made his pro debut in December, 2000 with a second-round TKO of Tyrone Austin in Chester, West Virginia. He fought and won seven times in 2001, twice decisioning Joe Lenhart in six rounds.

He began 2002 with a pair of decision wins over David Chappell, the second of which was in his Blue Horizon debut. He continued on his winning ways and posted perhaps his biggest win against a name opponent to date when he won a 10-round, unanimous decision over veteran Ross Purrity in May, 2005.

Four months later, Chambers won the vacant Pennsylvania State and IBU Heavyweight titles in his only 12-round contest to date - a unanimous decision victory over Robert Hawkins.

Prior to knocking out Jenkins, his other wins in 2006 came against Andrew Greeley and Ed Mahone - by unanimous decision and fourth-round TKO respectively.

FAMILY:

Eddie H. Chambers is one of seven siblings. He currently lives in Pennsylvania with father and trainer Eddie W. Chambers, stepmother Lynn, brother Christopher (age 14) and best friend and junior welterweight professional boxer Steve Upsher.

Other siblings include sisters Alexis (40), Jessica (30) and Shalouna (21), and brothers Joseph (17) and Isaac (4). Another brother, Blake, tragically passed away at age 8.

The elder Chambers, who has a degree in mathematics from the University of Pittsburgh, serves as Fast Eddie's trainer, working his corner at all his fights.

EDUCATION:

Eddie successfully progressed through the Pittsburgh Public School System. He attended the Lemington Elementary School before moving on to the Reizenstein Middle School.

Completing his public education, Eddie was a 2000 Graduate of Westinghouse High School.

WHY BOXING:

Eddie would constantly get teased by youth in the neighborhood because he did not have all the latest clothes. So his father decided to take him to the gym as a way to be able to gain confidence and learn how to defend himself.

Povetkin will look to bully his way inside and keep the fight on the ropes. Although Chambers is a good inside fighter, he is not nearly as effective as the Russian if forced into a phone booth. For Chambers to win, he must keep the fight in the middle of the ring where he can take advantage of his hand speed and strong jab. Unfortunately for Chambers, Povetkin is unlikely to be deterred by taking a few hard shots to the head.

The larger question looming over this fight is what chance would either boxer have against Klitschko, the sanctioning body's champion, should the Ukrainian get by Ibragimov in their unification fight on Feb. 23.Part of the Povetkin Legend is that he possesses the proverbial iron chin. Just once has Povetkin been knocked down, that coming as an amateur at the hands of hard-punching, fellow Russian Islam Timurziev . Povetkin got right up and eventually stopped his opponent. As a pro, the only part of Povetkin's body to touch canvas so far has been the soles of his feet.

But this strength of Povetkin's could also be a weakness. Because he feels sure he can take any man's punch, Povetkin is willing to absorb shots to give shots. His confidence in his chin tends to make him lose focus on his defense, which in theory would leave him open to damage from a good counter-puncher like Chambers.

Even without his thick whiskers, however, Povetkin is unlikely to be knocked out by Chambers, who does not pack all that much power. Of Chambers' 30 victories, only 16 have come by way of knockout. Povetkin has demonstrated heavier hands, with 11 knockouts among his 14 wins.

Povetkin has also benefited from a far more experienced trainer in his corner between rounds. Until this fight, Chambers had been trained exclusively by his father, who while having done an excellent job, was an undistinguished amateur boxer without championship experience on any level.

On January 11 Chambers, with the agreement of his father, hired world-class trainer Buddy McGirt, a two-time former welterweight champion, to be part of his team. McGirt will not have had much time to make any changes in the way Chambers fights, but he will be a valuable asset in the corner between rounds, especially if the going gets rough.
..............................................................

I cant help to mention the russian looks like a big dumb galoot. I have seen him on youtube. He has very fast hands and is strong.

Even though I do not care much for McGirt I am glad they made this move. I have never trusted fathers in the ring with their children looking for a payday. McGirt will at least lend experience to the corner.

With his high-glove defense -- similar to Winky Wright's -- Chambers makes it hard for punches to penetrate. The downside is that by keeping his gloves up by his face it leaves his body vulnerable, as former young gun Dominick Guinn demonstrated just two fights ago when he repeatedly landed hooks to Chambers' ribs. While the Philadelphia boxer won a unanimous decision over Guinn, he was hard-pressed to do so.

The pressure will be on the Russian to win. If he wins it puts him with Klit for a big money payday.

How he handles the pressure with another undefeated fighter with experience will tell the
tale.

Eddie Chambers -

Chambers definitely belongs up here. He is so relaxed in the pocket, makes his punches worth his money and he's slick. He has great poise, punches in combinations and is very fast. You just wonder how his body will hold up at heavyweight. If you took anything out of the Rossey fight, it was that even though he carried some weight around his stomach, he got better as the fight went along against the physically imposing Rossey in the guy's backyard.

thanks for posting this stuff.

the line has been fluctuating quite a bit, chambers is +650 at some sites, when he started at +400.

Ill probably play Pov as well, still awtching the lines though.

I played the over as well and Povetkin.

Right now at those odds I dont see too much value any more.

I think Povektin will prevail, but Chambers is too dangerous to lay the Russian at -700. Actually at +650 I think there's the value.

Chambers probably cant ko the Russian, but I dont know how well Chambers will take Povetkins body punches.

I just couldnt bring myself to lay that kind of money on the russian to win. I think your right that the key to the fight will be if Fast Eddie can handle the body shots and counter to at least keep Alex off from him. He has the experience to make this a dance if he wants to.

They have rushed the russian along. Maybe asking too much of him. Especially to knock this guy out in under the 9.5 rounds.

The russian couldnt KO this guy.

I think someone with the name Stephane and
a 3-2 record is supposed to be knocked the fawk out of the ring.

Here is a question that I have.

Does anyone know if Chambers holds during his fights ?

Can Fast Eddie get in a clinch and lay on a guy during the fight with the best of them ?

I havnt seen Chambers fight enough to know this.

thanks

I've seen Fast Eddie fight a couple of times and I recall hardly any holding- he's got that high guard, cover up-peek-aboo defense and he'll let the guy fire away and then come back with his own. I don't know what to think of the extra few pounds on Chambers- he was litttle tubby at 213, but carried it well. I think Chambers has the right stuff, but could get outworked by the determined Russian.

I was in the middle of handicapping basketball and took a break and read your post. I went to pinnacle and i couldn't find odds on the fight so i figured it was down the road. Now i had to jump somewhere else in the middle of handicapping. Sorry i tried to ask that as nice as i could. If i had to go to Box picks and look at all his picks then jump all around to find out when those fights are it would be a pain in the rear. When he puts dates on his bets like the other guys it makes it a lot easier on others. If i just bet boxing i wouldn't have asked.

thats the one thing that worries me about this fight and that is that Fast Eddie will be holding on for dear life if the russian connects with a jaw crusher on his chin a few times.

that would not be a good situation for the over rounds.
