Okay, now that the Kentucky Derby is in the books, it is time to turn our attention to the Preakness. There are numerous well documented angles that apply to the Kentucky Derby, but what about the Preakness.

In a different thread, Valuist indicated that Pimlico's unbanked turns don't favor closers. That is nice info to know. Another thing worth noting is that Magna (Frank Stronach) has taken over Pimlico since last year's race. How might this affect the race? There are many conspiracy theorists who believe that Stronach does whatever favors his runners. Does anybody have any insight into this?

Let's have some info so that we can all crush this race!

I wouldn't be too concerned with conspiracy theories. Historically, horses who've run ok in the Derby despite trouble have been good bets. Atswhatimtalkingabout fits that angle, but it sounds like he will pass and wait til the Belmont. You could look at Peace Rules trip two ways: he prompted a pretty fast pace and still hung aroung. OTOH, he had no discernable trouble and was never more than 2 wide. Empire Maker was 3 wide on both turns but it sounds likely he will pass also. Funny Cide had a pretty good trip; he certainly could win back but I have a feeling he won't. I think Indian Express can't be totally eliminated. His Derby race was a complete throwout. When he was shut off at the break he then rushed up behind a wall of horses and the rider had the brakes on the whole time so he wouldn't clip heels. I taped the Derby but will have to re-watch the trips of some of the also rans like Eye of the Tiger and Domestic Dispute, since it sounds like those two may head on to Baltimore. Of the 3YOs who passed on the Derby, Dynever looks to be the best but I think they are waiting for the Belmont.
