Premier League on NBC. . . . Premier League on NBC....

Next Saturday, NBC kicks off their first ever coverage of the English Premier League, and if you don't soccer, you're not going to like it, but if you like the US National team or the World Cup or MLS, you will love the Premier League.

What makes the game stand out is how often games can turn at the end of the match, the passion of the supporters and the effect that has on the players, the way managers goad each other. . . it's very comparable to college football. With no playoffs, every game counts. The fact that the worst three teams gets kicked out of the league make the end of the season life or death. It's fantastic.

NBC hasn't made a wrong turn since they've obtained the rights, with

Pick a club, wait to find your club or just enjoy the game. It's a season that never ends and a love affair that will last a lifetime. Soccer is in America. It's only getting stronger.

I thought the ESPN coverage was good in he past. I hope NBC doesn't screw it up.

It's good they're going to have every EPL match. Only thing I hate about the EPL is no playoffs.

Coverage is unheard of. Although to compare it to college football is a little much it's great for soccer in our country. Ultimately it's going to hurt MLS.

Thanks for the reminder, I'm really looking forward to this as well.

Don't really agree with the NCAA FB analogy though. These players get vast sums of money, even by MLB standards. The entire experience is designed to part the fan from his money...replica shirts that change every season, very high admission prices, high in-stadium costs for food and drink, etc.

Anyway, huge fan here, even although my team (Watford) are not in the Prem this season (but we came oh so close last year).

It's similar to college football in the way the fans are a huge part of the spectacle and the fact that every game counts. Whenever there's an international tournament, twitter blows up with college football bloggers who are following it as well .... edsbs, chris fowler, mgoblog all are drawn to the game and I think it's because of the similarities in atmosphere.

I still like college foots better, but that's the only sport I care about more. The relagation aspect, the off field drama and the ability to wrap up the entire sporting day by noon are all ways that it fares better compared to college foots.

BTW, the picture of Gareth Bale at the top is pretty funny given that he will almost certainly not be playing in the Prem this season!!

I thought this was pretty funny too. They really picked a good poster boy for the campaign.

Think America has shown many times before that it/we will tune-in by the millions for short amounts of time such as the Olympics, World Cup, and big time friendlies. But the idea America tuning in in any great numbers for an entire season of games from a half a world away with some starting at 4:45 am pst is at best far fetched imo. There will be diehards just like hockey has, and for those that enjoy it I am glad you will have the opportunity, but it is hard for me to see this taking off like nbc is pinning its hopes on:shrug: Couple of things below that stuck out from an article I read.

For starters, there's the EPL calendar, which runs from August through May:scared , leaving NBC's coverage to compete against the NFL, college football and the start of the NBA and NHL playoffs. Then there are the early-morning kickoffs; coverage of next weekend's Liverpool-Stoke City game is scheduled to start at 4:45 a.m. PDT:scared .

But buoyed by favorable demographics ? EPL viewers tend to be more upscale and better educated than the general sports audience:0049 ? Miller believes soccer will give his network a leg up on traditional sports broadcasting powers ESPN and Fox, which NBC outbid for the rights to the English league.

Probably not a great selling point. You can't show the highlight of highlights of a sport, and sell it as "the sport".

How many games out of 1000 end like that? 1? So, to say, "Here's what you are missing", is a gross over-statement.

if you are asking what games ends exactly like that, probably not many as that would be like asking which game ends like the Seattle-GB game with a botched call.

if you are asking which game is as dramatic as that, the answer would be plenty.
