I went to one of the preseason games held at Long Beach St. today and i watched the mavs play the griz in what was an exciting overtime matchup.
I sat very cose to Jerry West and saw Mike Fratello(sp?) I also saw a flip saunders look alike coaching a scrub team that was on after the main game. Me and my buddy joked he was doing community service for his crimes against twolves/pistons. Anyways the guy who i wanted to talk about was Rudy Gay.
Luckily he was there or else i was left with a bunch of unrecognizable faces, except for Lowell(rookie from nova). I was a decent Gay fan this year watching most of the uconn games, he has soooo much talent but he acted like he just didnt care half the time and let his talent cruise him by.
So first thing i wanted to see from him was hustle, and he definitely showed it. He came up with plenty of loose balls and fought for rebouds. He also started posting up his guys which is a huge thing for me because he has a big boyd for a 3 and if he could post those guys up he could be very dangerous.
Of course he had 3 monster dunks that got everyone all worked up, and this was a tame crowd not an and1 crowd. Alkso he hit most of his long balls too. But these were things we already knew he was bringing to the table. I think for those that followed him his talent was #1 or2 in the draft but you really had to question his heart and hustle. Well he showed both of those tonight and I think that is a very good sign of things to come for him and the grizzlies.
Oh and the mavs had this kid from california, he was #23 and he hit the game tieing shot at the buzzer and he was hitting everything, maybe he just had a very good game but he had a very strong showing.
Just thought i would try my hand at reporting, trying to keep something going on in this forum.
Any of you guys checked out any of these preseason games?
