I understand the home "field" advantage of the Internationals which will be big. But it seems to me that Couples will do more "coaching" in putting the right guys together in these matches, compared to Norman leaning towards putting countrymen together to be comfortable playing together. I understand that, but considering all Americans already have that advantage - wouldn't it make sense Americans could offset the home course/crowd aspect with pure golf strategy in pairing up players?

I'm looking at the even money wager for either side to win, and can't help but like the Americans for that initial planning "advantage." Of course the overall record is skewed because this has historically been played in America, but I look at the Euro's roster and just do not see the same fearsome players in many respects compared to Ryder Cup players.

Any thoughts on this?

OPENING ROUND FOURSOMES

WATSON/SIMPSON (-125) over ELS/ISHIKAWA

:toast:

I really like Watson/Simpson pairing as well.

Like Mickelson and Furyk as well. Allenby hasnt been striking the ball that well and in this format can really hinder a team and put them behind the 8 ball.

Mahan seems to be ok after withdrawing from Open last week and I think him and Toms win as well tomorrow.

Day 1 play (2pts):

Phil Mickelson & Jim Furyk to beat Retief Goosen & Robert Allenby -107 @ Pinnacle [available generally]
Unlike the Ryder Cup, you can't hide out-of-form players in this event and that applies to Goosen and Allenby. Goosen's last top-10 was in June; Allenby's last top-10 was just one week later; they have both recorded just two top-10 finishes in their last 23 starts. Those struggles with their games will be exposed in the foursomes format and this is not a format in which either player has excelled: Goosen has 2-6-2 record in foursomes; Allenby has a 3-5-2 record in foursomes (both Mickelson and Furyk have winning records in this format).

well up 2 with 4 to play and never trailing in the match I felt pretty good about my chances. Not happy with the push. and my schwartzel most points wager takes a hit, I am guessing someone will be 5-0, just have to hope not and schwartzel gets 4.5 points.

waiting for the lines to come out. Think stricker not 100% will look to go against him today.

c20916, beautiful start as others, congrats to all. You have my attention with Stricker, but not sure I agree.

I have played one match so far today after a nice start and a little hefty on this one. Best to my mates down under. :toast: :toast:

Mick/Furyk -113 x8

A key match with a mid start time, a chance to break the backs of the predominant Aussie contingent. May add another later.

Well get my first 3 in yesterday and now on to today.

I really like the american match ups for today but I feel some of the lines are inflated.

Only two I think im going to jump on,

Johnson/Woods (-105) over Day/Baddeley
Tiger didnt strike the ball too badly yesterday just missed a few shots that left Stricker in bad spots. While Stricker didnt capitalize on some good spots Tiger left him. I think Tiger comes back today with a purpose and the comeback DJ had yesterday might carry him into today.

Day/Baddeley faltering down the stretch and the pressure of playing at home might be too much for the young kids to overcome.

Last when will you ever get Tiger in a match at -105. Ill bite.

Watson/Webb(-165) over Els/Ryo
Simply put the Simpson/Watson pairing shined yesterday and nothing should change. Ernie has struggled recently and Ryo has some personal issues and I dont think his mind is where it needs to be. I hate laying that much juice but this team will be hard to beat.

Last im going with Haas/Watney (+100) over Ogilvy/Choi
The young kids really grinded yesterday and these two can make a ton of birdies and seem to paly with no fear.

Ogilvy/Choi will be tough but I think the AMericans just make more birdies than two players that play more conservative golf.

Good Luck everyone!!

Day 2 play (2pts):

Steve Stricker & Matt Kuchar to beat Y.E. Yang & Robert Allenby +115 @ Bet365
Not a point between these players today: Stricker, Yang and Allenby all lost heavily in the foursomes, while Kuchar won the last two holes with Dustin Johnson to salvage a halve against Jason Day and Aaron Baddeley. But now that the Tiger Woods-Steve Williams circus is out of the way, I'd expect Stricker to play much better tomorrow. Neither of Yang or Allenby have winning records in fourball matches and with concerns over Allenby's form, I certainly make the American pairing stronger favourites in this match.
