Hi Guys,

It is fairly apparent that most football fans really don't care about the Pro Bowl.

With the talent on display I am just curious as to why the Pro Bowl has become such a Non Event each year and why they even bother playing it.

They have a similar concept in Australia with rugby league called State of Origin and this has proven to be a huge success.

On the course!
The disinterest stems from this being the only sport in the States that has their "All-Star" game after the season is over.

I think its more than that...

I think its more than that...

Its hard to get excited when players don't really care whether they win or lose.

They dont' blitz or hit hard. Its not real football. The hockey and basketball are jokes too. The games just aren't played in a way that teams try to win. There's no defense.

Baseball is the only one I watch and that's mainly because you get so many good hitter/pitcher matchups. I don't really care who wins it.

But the Pro-bowl is definitely a major let down after the biggest game of the year being played the week before, like yyz said.

Obviously the reason the Pro Bowl is in Hawaii is to entice the players to show up, period. Hell, some of these guys have been off for a month. Nobody is going to Green Bay for the All Star game.

The trend for All Star game weekends in all sports seems to be going in the direction of exhibitions and contests, like the best dunk in B-Ball, home run hitting in baseball and fastest shot in hockey. I expect that in the future, the duration of the game itself will be shortened and more and more "skill" contests will develop. I'd rather watch some kind of single elimination street pick up game (QB and two receivers versus three DBs) than the second half of the Pro Bowl.

When it all gets down to it, would you rather see the NBA East All Stars beat the West 176-165 or some rookie beat Michael Jordan in HORSE?
