I have used thebigbook.com for several years as one of my outs (along with NASA), its far from the best, but its familiar and easy to use. But now it wont work with AOL. Not one lick.

I called the people at bigbook and they said that it won't work and there is nothing we can do. I'm like, "well I'm a customer trying to use your site and I can't cuz I have AOL?" I mean, how many freaking million people use AOL? Its not like I have some random bargainbasement internet provider.

What the fawk is going on here? Is this a problem with a lot of sites nowadays? I hadn't used the site in 5-7 months, and it always worked fine?

Any suggestions (other than the obvious, find a new out)?

very strange...

At my work Gambling sites are filtered.. they simply dont work..

1 way i get around this is to sign on to AOL.

hell i work most sundays, so much of my gambling is done at work through AOL.

works fine for me.

Has anybody else had this problem, specifically with thebigbook?
If there are any computer specialists reading this, heres the problem:

Their site is heavily Java based, so they recomend downloading IE 6.0. I did that, but their site still won't come up (all the other ones I've tried will). They are telling me they think its with AOL, and that they've never heard of this happening.

Any programmers out there?

Jeff, this should not be a problem.

Try downloading Opera, its another browser that tends to work when others do not. You can get a free trial at their website, dont know it offhand.

Sign onto AOL and launch the browser -whichever one you use- seperately. Never use the built in AOL browser.

Yeah, thats what Ive been doing -- loading AOL, minimizing, then using IE. But I'll try the Opera stuff if I can find it. Thank you.

Hey theGibber:

I also have the filter problem at the office.

I can get on AOL, but I still can't get Explorer to work.

Do I have to do something to the properties?

Hey Jeff,

I don't think it is AOL because I just used my laptop and dialed up thru AOL and got onto that site with the IE. Then I tried it with the AOL browser and it also worked

Was it working then all of the sudden one day it stopped or did you switch to a different version of AOL?

You could also post this problem on the boards over at www.virtualdr.com

They are usually very fast and helpful with any computer problems.

Ace, thanks for the heads up on Opera -- downloaded it earlier and it worked like a charm.

Zig Zag- I hadnt used the site in about 6 months and they changed their software. They said the same thing as you about how it should work on IE. I'm not a computer guy in any way, though, but this Opera browser should get the job done.

FAWK!

Opera was working like a charm, then it stoppped being able to connect to thebigbook. It works for other sites, and it worked on bigbook for the first few days. What the hell is wrong with that damn site. So frustrating:mad:

Any computer guys have any idea how rectify this problem? (The sooner the better as I still have some NFL plays to make).
