Exactly what happened to me a long time ago. Never knew and felt like the same way. Went home and went to bed.

Some people say 50 but I think it should be checked earlier. If you know what is going to happen it's not as bad. However, they never give you enough tissues.

my father just died from this disease. He suffered incredible for 12 years, especially the last three. I'm paralyzed from the neck down, and have never seen such pain. when it spreads to the bones, which it always does it is incredible suffering. I would get checks if you haven't, it's no joke.

Shamrock your correct it,s tough stuff. I been border line with a high PSA for 7 years. I just hate going every 6 months. I did try to make it a little lighter with the Doc on one of those visits but got not a sigh. I told him he could do the test as long both his hands were not on my hips at same time. I jinx myself my PSA was 5 on that visit. But other test were negative. I learned keep mouth shut. Sorry about your Dad.

djv- your psa isn't the only marker. It definitely shouldn't be 5. Find what your Gleason score is, that measures how aggressive the cancer is. If you're Gleason is very low (4 or lower) something else will kill you long before prostate cancer. My Dads Gleason was 10, that's very aggressive cancer. When he died his psa was over 3000. 2 years before that it was 2.
With a psa of 5, you may want to get a biopsy if it tests 5 again.
Remember prostate cancer is nearly 100% cure if contained in prostate. Once it spreads out of prostate big trouble.

Thanks for your concern I do appreciate that much. My PSA was 1.4 for years. Then jumped to 5 and another time 5.9. Both times they did biopsy and they were neg. Boy you talk about a tough test. What they say I have is a hiper something I cant even say. And they tell me I will die of something other then prostate cancer.

My father's father had prostate cancer, and he (now 68) has been getting tested--ever so often (year or two)--for the past 20 years.

Personally, I don't trust doctors and when I die I die. Medical science over the past 50 years?...don't get me started.
Funny (WW) how the rates of cancer, diabites, heart disease, ad absurdium have increased over said period. I'm not blaming it on the doctors, certainly, but on the world that we and are forefathers have created.

Get it checked out--at 50+--if there is a history in the family.
Beyond that, do what makes you feel comfortable.

Just one's "obtuse" opinion.
I admit to a bias.
North American doctors are charlatans, IMO.

So much can be read. It doesn't matter.
Just look after yourself.
Get a second opinion if negative conotations are implied.
