The Providence Friars will make their first appearance in the NIT tournament since 1999 when they take on the Richmond Spiders tonight.
Providence are 16-13 SU and 14-12 ATS overall this season. Their 8-8 conference record placed them third in the Big East's East division. Last week the Friars earned their first win at the Big East tourny since 1998 when they thrashed West Virginia 73-50 and then followed that up with a very competitive effort against Pittsburgh before losing 67-59. The Friars have covered six of their last eight including three of four on the road.
Richmond are 16-12 SU and a poor 8-14-1 ATS. They finished third in the Atlantic 10 West division with a 9-7 record which was disappointing considering they got off to a fast start at 6-1. They last played Thursday when they were beaten 66-52 by Temple in the second round of the A-10 tourny. The Spiders have been on a 1-8 ATS slide recently.
These teams met in mid-December at Providence and the home team posted an easy 84-55 victory as 5 point favorite's.
We'll take the in-form Friars to get the win and cover tonight.
