OTTAWA SENATORS (42-22-10-6) AT PHILADELPHIA FLYERS (40-20-14-6), 7 p.m. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Flyers try to draw closer to the Atlantic Division title tonight when they welcome the Ottawa Senators to the Wachovia Center for a key East matchup.
Philly, with 100 points, leads second-place New Jersey by two in the Atlantic race with two games remaining for both clubs. The Flyers are third in the conference race -- two points behind No. 2 Boston.
Ottawa, meanwhile, is currently fourth in the East with 100 points, but must first catch the Bruins in the division before it can snag a top-three seed. The Sens are also just a point ahead of Toronto, and two in front of New Jersey in the conference.
Philadelphia moved back atop the Atlantic on Thursday, as Sean Burke made 24 saves to earn his second shutout of the season and lead the Flyers to a 2-0 win in Montreal.
Simon Gagne and Michal Handzus both scored for the Flyers, who snapped a two- game losing streak.
Burke's performance was a much-needed one, as Robert Esche had produced poor outings in the team's previous two games. However, Esche is expected to start this evening and in Sunday's regular season finale on Long Island.
On the injury front, the Flyers' Keith Primeau (concussion) and Eric Desjardins (broken forearm) both returned to the lineup Thursday. Primeau had been out since February 12, while Desjardins suffered his injury on January 17.
Philadelphia has lost three of its last four home contests.
Ottawa, meanwhile, is unbeaten in four straight. On Wednesday, Martin Havlat scored late in the third period to snap a tie and lift the Sens to a 5-4 win over Florida at the Office Depot Center.
Havlat, Marian Hossa and Antoine Vermette each posted a goal and an assist for the Senators, who earned their second straight win and are 3-0-1 in the last four.
Wade Redden and Chris Phillips also scored for Ottawa, while Ray Emery finished with 15 saves. Regular starting goaltender Patrick Lalime is currently nursing a knee sprain, and is expected to be ready for the playoffs. Martin Prusek will start tonight.
The Senators will conclude the regular season at home against Toronto Saturday night.
This evening's tilt is the first between these teams since a fight-laden affair on March 5 at the Wachovia Center. In the final two minutes there were five all-out brawls and one of the fights involved Esche and Lalime. The game featured an NHL record 419 penalty minutes, breaking the mark of 406 set in February of 1981 between Minnesota and Boston.
The Flyers won that game, 5-3, to snap a five-game series winless streak (0-2-3) in the regular season.
