Tom Kite to win 12/1 e.w. @ William Hill
Very difficult to follow his very impressive win in the AT&T Classic and so his finish the following week can easily be ignored. He last win on this Tour had been in 2004, though he did devote a lot of time last year to playing on the PGA Tour and even led the Booz Allen Classic after 54 holes last June. This year, he had improved his finishing position in every event up to that win and is certainly one of the most in-form players on view this week, particularly with the field missing a large number of the 'headline' players. With decent finishes in his two previous starts in Mexico, he should certainly be challenging for the title again this week.
Tom Jenkins to win 25/1 e.w. @ William Hill
Jenkins hasn't won this year, but with three top-10 finishes in six starts, including 3rd behind Kite in the AT&T Classic, he has shown that he can still be competitive on this Tour. Only Loren Roberts has more top-10 finishes this year. In fact, it has largely been his putting that has let him down so far this season, so the change to Mexican greens may help. It seems have done so in the past with finishes of 2nd and 7th in the last two Champions Tour events in Mexico, so odds of 25/1 appear to be decent value.
Bruce Lietzke to win 40/1 e.w. @ BetInternet and William Hill [50.5/1 to win-only @ The Greek]
In terms of records in Mexico, none compare to Lietzke. In his two Champions Tour starts in Mexico, he won in 2002 despite opening with a 75 and looked set to win the following year, but took a triple-bogey at the last hole in the 2nd round and entered the final round shared for the lead. Again, he looked set for victory until a bogey at the 15th enabled David Eger's 65 in the clubhouse to be one shot to many and he finished 2nd. And his form was not too dissimilar to his form at the moment. True, his finishes of 15, 37th and 16th would not have resulted in a payout, but his first round scores have enabled him to be in 1st place and 2nd place in two of those events. He has carried his good form to very strong finishes in Mexico in the past, so there is some hope that he can continue to start as well, but also continue his form throughout this week.

- - Word association, maybe . . . Saw this event in Mexico on the calendar two weeks ago, and Bruce Lietzke was the first name that popped into my head. Two weeks later, and nothing more compelling has come along (although last night it was interesting to hear Tom Jenkins say he was glad riding carts were back this week, because of an arthritic toe) . . . My procrastination did mean the difference between 50/1 and 35/1.
