QB runs for a first down, out of bounds, and clock left running-rule change I missed?

Happened in the game I'm currently watching.
Mahomes scrambles ob, 3rd and 7 at the Clev 36, at 10:31

I presume the clock kept running by mistake, but it seems unusual.

Not going to affect the outcome, but that's besides the point.

If anybody else caught that, and can explain, I'd dig it.

cheers, all

I think it?s under 5 min or so that the clock stops. If it?s early in the quarter, it doesn?t stop. It starts on the ref spotting the ball.

Watch the beginning of the next game and you will see. If it?s early in a quarter, clock runs after ball is spotted. Only incomplete pass is clock stop.

Thanks, UMRebel.

In this case, the clock kept running after Mahomes ran out of bounds, for several seconds. The broadcast then changed the view, excluding the game clock for 10-15 seconds, and when they brought the clock back, next play, it appeared to have ran the whole time.

I'll try and catch a replay to make sure I wasn't having an acid flashback, but I'm pretty sure they left the gameclock running.

No biggie.

Beauty game, mind you. Good thing I just fanned it instead of bought it.

I heard this explained on VSIN. The rule is that the clock continues to run except for an incomplete pass or the ball goes out of bounds in the final 2 minutes of the 1st half or the final 5 minutes of the 2nd half. This would make a difference if you want to wager, for example, on the total yards passing for a QB, let's say in this case for the LV Carr tomorrow. If the Ravens pursue their running game, it would run the clock significantly. :0008

TRIVIA: In the early days of football the clock continued on running plays but stopped after an incomplete pass. The reason? They used to play with one (1) football and, if it was thrown out of bounds or into the stands, they had to go and retrieve it. :)
