The old lady got one about a month ago. I've been giving her VIOXX. Seems to be alittle short on breath but the pain seems mangeable.

you can bite down on a aspirin right where the tooth is and it will deaden it.

Over the counter ambesol takes the pain away temp.

extra strength tylenol.

whiskey

I have no idea what your feelings are about drug use, but as even though I've only done pot a handful of times, I found it to be far and away the best painkiller I've ever used, much, much better than vicodin. I had a back injury last summer and the vicodin, advil and aleve all helped some, but weren't even close to as effective as when a friend gave me a couple weed hits. And I say that in complete seriousness.

For temporary relief if not too bad take scope or listerine will prob do also and hold in mouth submerging tooth in it for bout a minute. Will hurt a little at 1st due to tempature change but relief will come quickly.
Just did it a while ago on one of my own. Seems I always get them when dentist is out the next few days.

Groove dont put an aspirin in there. I know a girl that did that a month or so ago. It gave her some kind of weird burns in her mouth. She is still having problems a month later. A shot of Crown Royal swished around should help more than the mouthwash as its a little stronger and is a natural painkiller :)

Try Orastat maximum strength and liquid silver {dietary supplement}. take a small swig of the silver and swish it around for at least two minutes then put a nice dab of the orastat on the bad tooth...might not work for everyone, but really worked for me... gl

Coming from a General Dentist.

Your best bet is obviously to get in asap. Whoever you plan on going to should have emergency call and be able to call you in an antibiotic and something for pain. If you don't have a dentist, look in your yellow pages and call until you get an office with an answering service or an emergency number.

As far as meds, an anti-inflammatory would work good, alleve, ibuprofen, ect. be careful not to take more than 3.2g of ibuprofen in 24 hrs.
Also, most pharmacies have a toothache kit, these contain eugenol and cotton pellets. I've heard they work good for short term relief.

Hope this helps, hang in there.

call your dentist and make him see you or else go see whoever is on call. There will be somebody. Don't wait until Monday.

I had always heard the phrase, "hurts like a toothache", but I never know quite what that meant until this last year. It's horrible. imho, none of these otc or home remedies is going to help. That crack needs to be sealed or covered some way.

Had the same problem about a month ago as on a Saturday I felt a cracking sensation in the back of my mouth. Since it was near dinner time there was no chance of finding a dentist but when I awoke on Sunday my whole head was swelled up like a melon and the pain was unbearable like no pain that I had ever had. Well I drove up to the drug store and bought two of everything for toothaches and the only one that helped me was Anbesol but the releif would only last for about thirty minutes. After going through both bottles of Anbesol by noon the pain was unbearable so I poured me a four shots of Jagermeister and would swish it around the tooth that was bad and it actually numb it up for a few hours. Around dinner time I took a Sonata sleeping pill and passed out until the next morning. Went to the dentist and the dude had to pull the tooth which is another unpleasant experience which I hope you do not have to endure.

I missed my shot at fame, i was at the carolina bowl game and just got in...finally, a tooth post ;) All kidding aside, as some of the others said, take some ibuprofin or anti inflammatory. DO NOT put aspirin on it, as the others have correctly informed you. If it hurts that bad get in to an ER.

Nice to see another dentist on the board costanza...although i can't make that claim yet...3rd year student here.
