BEAM ME UP SCOTTY!
Does anyone use satellite internet?

I currently have a cable modem in my home and do not want to lose any speed. But it's going to cost $95 a month for my business for cable, and only $51 for satellite internet.

Is the speed slower? If so, would the cost reduction account for the loss of speed? If it is anywhere near as slow as phone line, I don't want it.

Please let me know if you have any knowledge or opinions....

Sup bud ?

Sup bud ?

Ahhh nothing like a preseason LOCK !
;)

I looked into this at one time and according to the booklet I have the difference between the fastest dial-up and satellite.......

Downloading software:
47 mins vs 7 mins

Downloading video
15 mins vs 3 mins

Downloading a song
11 mins vs 2 mins

Opening up a webpage
28 secs vs 4 secs

I stayed with my cable modem and I don't use a comp for my business. Best to you and yours.

Looking forward toward your regular season LOCKS.

I think if you have a firewall set up on your machine to protect it from anyone sniffing out the ports on your machine.

I think everyone using Cable modem or so shud have a firewall set up on the machine otherwise it is not that hard to hack into one's machine thru an unused port where access is available.

One of the good firewall is avaliable for free @
http://www.zonealarm.com

you can set up what programs shud access the internet and keep control on data sent in and out of ur machine.

For all those who have windows 98 .. there is firewall already in the operating system but for reasons unknown to the world the default value of this firewall is set to "OFF".

Good luck

Ironlock.... If I remember correctly... with Satalite you can not upload anything... so if you plan on sending files to others you won't beable to..... either that or it was that upload speeds were VERY VERY slow.... I can't remember.... but if you plan on uploading things you should look into this..

The way I understand it they use the satellite for the download and your dial up for the upload. Their theory is that you really don't upload that much info. I used to have SDSL. I personally am sticking with my cable modem. My cable modem kicks my SDSL line butt. On my cable modem on off peek hours I can go over 4Mbps on the download.

Judging from my current satellite TV setup, the damn things goes off every time we have a mild thunder-storm (which is every afternoon down here). I don't know if it'll affect the Sat. DSL the same, but worth taking into consideration.

I have used both cable modem (AT&T) and now use ADSL. Both are comparably fast and cost about the same. I'd say they're about the same speed downloading (maybe slight advantage for cable). Although cable has a great advantage uploading. Also, cable is very unsafe since all users on local cable network can access your computer very easily.

Another thing, when there are many users on your cable connection network, you speed slows down remarkably.

I'd suggest, if you can get it, ADSL thru your phone line. But that depends on how close you are to a phone sub-station (or something like that).

Damn I am an idiot!

Thanks for all your responses....but I screwed up!

This is internet that uses radio signals, not satellite. They say the speed is 256 K for the 55 bucks, you upload the same way you downlaod, with a two-way mini thing a ma bob mounted to your roof, and cable run from the deal to your computer. The thing a ma jig is set to a tower or something on a hill or on top a building in town.....

I don't know shit about this stuff but the damn people I call that sell don't seem to either..

Help!

It's called prairiefire internet.
