I'm just a little irritated at the moment and looking for a legit answer if anyone has one. I went to call in another play on the Philly/STL game for Monday Night and wanted to buy 1/2 pt and my book (Millenium Sports) does not allow 1/2 pts to be bought when the line is 3. WTF is that all about????? Am I missing something or has that always been a rule with all books or is it just this crappy book that has that B.S. rule???

most books allow it, but you can expect to pay double for it (on or off 3)

The better question is what is the point. You are willing to lay huge extra juice just to make sure you dont push? And if you think that half point is that important it tells you it is a game you shouldnt even be playing.

sun tzu i think that is exactly the right logic. so many times people love a play at -3 and then it hits -3.5 and everyone panics. i understand the 1/2 pt could be critical but if you really like a play at 3 just play it and don't worry at 3.5. buying the 1/2 from +2.5 to +3 and from -3 to -2.5 is really a bad move. you're laying an extra 20 % to make the wager. it might be a good short term move but in the long run the extra juice will kill you.

90% of bettors cant beat the book laying 10%. now 20 or 30% is a drop in the bucket? no sense in dragging this thread out and letting it become 'buying points debate', but its alarming how many just shrug at 20 or 30%.

Of 240 NFL games this year only 39 have been 3 point margins (16%). There were 88 games where the closing line was 3 (obviously some variance on the book you have.) Of those 88, only 5 were pushes. So that's 5.7% of the time where buying off 3 would help you, and you are laying an extra 10-20% to do it?

First, simple math shows it isnt worth it. Second, if you really are that concerned about the 1/2 point it clearly tells you the shouldnt be bet.

JUJI we can have a long discussion about the merits (or lack thereof) of buying off the hook - these guys are talking about buying off of a solid number.
