Having just watched this Hopkins fight, I remain convinced that Joe Calzaghe will beat him, should the fight ever happen.

Hopkins is a great champion..a true ring warrior. He is dirty, has the charisma, cockiness....everything Calzaghe isnt. But Calzaghe has one thing over Hopkins, and that is hand speed. Hopkins is now thirty eight, and I am sure he will not be able to compete with Calzaghe.

In that interview, Hopkins is talking through his ass. He is calling on any youngsters to take him on, yet I know from personal fact that Joe is itching to fight Hopkins, as is his promoter Frank Warren, yet Don King and Bernard Hopkins remain the stumbling block. I quote "come over to the US....thats where the money is at"

Warren wants Hopkins-Calzaghe to take place at the Millenium Stadium, in front of 70,000 people. If he is the man, then why wont he come over to the UK and fight Calzaghe, and shut us up once and for all?? Because, he knows that his cockiness, and that swagger will get knocked straight back over the Atlantic, but his belt wont be going with him.

I pray for that fight to happen....let me know what you think Gardenweasel, or anybody else with a boxing opinion. ;)

"the bunker"
my opinion

my opinion

is that calzaghe would have a real shot.....he`s a bigger guy....he`s a lefty.....he`s a very cocky,very tough hombre.....

the big question is ,where would this fight be held?.....that seems to be the question that prevents the best european and american fighters from hooking up.....and it`s ashamed.....

michaelczewski-jones is another fight that may never be made.....although in truth,i doubt that darius beats roy jones......even in germany....just way to much speed....

but, calzaghe is another story....a younger guy....probably the stronger guy....his one big problem would be hopkins` defense and counter punching....hopkins is a great technical fighter.....slick,hard to hit with flush shots....very clever....but he`s 38 years old....and that is very old in boxing years.....and really isn`t a big puncher.....

i give calzaghe an honest shot....i would guess he might go off as an underdog....if that were the case,i might lay a few quid on joe....he`s a guy that doesn`t get the press here in the u.s....but a damned good fighter.....at a neutral site,he handles sven ottke easily,iimo.....

i think we both would agree,he needs to step up the competition level before he gets the acclaim he may deserve....
