Somewhere in Corn Country
Anyone else that might be able to answer this for me.

A new member over in the Basketball forum is from New Zealand, and has been talking about posting his picks in soccer and rugby.
My question is, which books would you recomend I use to wager on these sports?
Stanley, I saw your highlited links to several books, and clicked on a few. Ladbrokes will not take my action because I'm in the U.S.A. , but Victor Chandler and First stakes look like they have no problems with me. Also, I can get 72 hole match-ups with my current books, but no 18 hole match-ups. How about a suggestion there as well?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have for me.

Redsfann, IMO the book to best follow Anders' plays is an Aussie book: DAS. They cover all the major European soccer leagues, all the Aussie Rugby and have a decent golf line-maker who puts up outright (with e/w option), 72-hole and 18-hole lines for the PGA, European & Australasian Tour.

Here in the UK we do have the season-ending State of Origin series shown on live TV so the Euro books will offer lines for these events, but I must admit I am not sure if they will offer lines for the weekly National Rugby League matches. If anyone will, it will be William Hill. I just don't know about First Stake - they only went online last summer, but if they will offer NRL lines then they will be the best out as they have the best golf coverage bar none at the moment.

Redsfann,
I'd also check out Sportingbet (UK), Canbet (Aus) and Olympic (Caribbean) for those sports. Note that there's two codes of rugby (league & union) and Anders is probably referring to union, the Super 12 competition starting late Feb.

Centrebet will be no good to you - like Ladbrokes & Megasports, they have American shareholders and can't take bets from US citizens.

If you play with DAS, you will need to open TWO accounts - one for US sports (NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, NCAA) and one for Aus/Euro sports - their operating systems aren't compatible which is annoying, but you will get competitive prices.

Hope you had a good Australian Open Boris - didn't know where to look to find your picks

Should have been clearer about the two codes

Some Aussie Rugby League is shown live in Britain so there is a reasonable chance of coverage by the Euro books; we don't get any live Aussie Rugby Union so I would be rather surprised if they covered it. New ground for First Stake & otherwise William Hill would be the most likely.

Personally, I've been very disappointed with Sportingbet over the past year. Came into the industry quite innovative, but now offer no more than 3 golf matchups per tournament and that is shockingly bad by Euro book standards. Canbet would be an obvious Aussie alternative to DAS and their lines on soccer are usually the best for juice, but for golf they merely reproduce the LVSC lines and no more. Disappointing compared to other Aussie books. I like Olympic, but wish they would offer 18-hole golf matchups - they offer updated lines on 72-hole matchups after the 2nd round, but I'm not a great fan of these. They already have futures for both codes of Aussie rugby, so hopefully they will have lines for each game.

Just to update on DAS, you only need one login username to set up the two accounts which are kept on separate servers. You are now able to transfer funds from one account to another online which is a big improvement

Well Olympic had Australian football lines last year, I imagine they will this year.

Sportodds is another one to consider there. They have their own opinions, and seem to like to put games out early.

Thanx for the interest guys, and the advice re books.
Aim to play both NRL (rugby league) and Super 12 (rugby) this season, with the NRL starting next weekend and the Super 12 the weekend after.
Don't profess to be an expert on either sport, but study them with interest and all I'm looking for now is a wagering angle, rather than any fan-type following of the game.
Until the odds come out for the first weekend's games, unsure as too how many I'll play but I can't imagine it getting over three very often - will endeavour to nominate only the strongest plays.
Will also have some futures plays mid-week next week for those keen on a long-range follow.
Will try also too keep an eye on most of the books mentioned here and let you know best odds available; time allowing.
Cheers
