My Mom's birthday is coming up. She hasn't paid for anything for me since I was 30 outside of Christmas presents, presents for my kids, little knicknacks. My birthday is close to Christmas, so she doesn't even acknowledge it besides a phone call.

Do I still need to get her anything?

Thanks!

But she comes over to see my kids, gets a lot of joy out of it, and I don't charge anything for that. It seems to me that I'm doing more for her than she is for me right now. It just seems like she gets all the benefits of the relationship right now. A present seems like overkill.

How bout just not showing up for Christmas this year. It is a win-win. You spend nothing, and she enjoys her best christmas ever.

Mother's Day is coming up too... dunno if that changes anything. Anyway, just jump on Amazon and ship it straight to her giftwrapped and make sure it arrives a few days early so she knows you were thinking about it/her. A book, a movie, a kitchen/gardening gadget, shit for the bathtub... doesn't matter. The act isn't just for her but you too cause you know you did the right thing and you'll feel better.
