RENTON ? The Seattle Seahawks again find themselves shuffling the offensive line at the beginning of the season.

Last year, the Seahawks went through six different offensive line changes and five different left tackles. The predictable results were an inconsistent performance by the guys up front, who lacked cohesion and chemistry.

Already this season the Seahawks likely will use their second different starting five up front next Sunday. Seattle coach Pete Carroll reported during his Monday afternoon press conference at the team?s headquarters that right guard Max Unger suffered an injury to the big toe on his left foot and likely will not play against the Denver Broncos.

Carroll said he does not know who will replace Unger in the starting lineup. The second-year product out of Oregon was one of two offensive linemen to start all 16 games last season. The other was offensive tackle Ray Willis, who is on the season-ending injured reserve list with a chronic knee issue.

Carroll does have options. Recent addition Stacy Andrews (from Philadelphia) has played some right guard, although the team sees him as more of a right tackle. Seattle also could move right tackle Sean Locklear to guard and place Andrews at right tackle.

Still a third option is veteran Ben Hamilton ? the team?s starting left guard at the beginning of training camp ? stepping in to fill the void left by Unger?s absence.

?We?re going to wait and check that out,? Carroll said. ?We?ve got to do some switching and changing here to move some stuff around so we?ll figure that out in the next day or so.?

At left tackle, Tyler Polumbus likely will get his second start of the season against the team that released him in Denver.

Carroll said rookie offensive tackle Russell Okung will try to practice this week, but likely will not be ready until Week 3 against San Diego. And veteran tackle Chester Pitts, who practiced in a limited capacity last week in his bid to return from microfracture knee surgery, could be an option at left tackle. But Carroll would probably go with the more healthy body there right now, which is Polumbus.
