Raiders sign nine-time Pro Bowl safety Rod Woodson

The Raiders appear to have filled one of their most glaring weaknesses on defense last year by signing free agent safety Rod Woodson. Two sources within the organization confirmed the deal to Silver and Black Illustrated late Monday night and Oakland has scheduled a 'major' player signing announcement for Tuesday.

Woodson, 37, has 61 career interceptions and has been voted to the Pro Bowl nine times during his 15-year NFL career. He was selected to the NFL's 75th anniversary all-time team and has returned more interceptions for touchdowns (10) than any other player in league history.

The 1993 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, Woodson spent his first 10 seasons in the league playing for Pittsburgh. He spent one season in San Francisco before joining Baltimore in 1998, leading the Ravens to the Super Bowl title two years later. He is the only player to have been voted to the Pro Bowl as a cornerback, safety and kick returner.

Safety was a position of concern the last two years for Oakland. Starters Marques Pope and Anthony Dorsett both took a lot of heat for the Raiders troubles defending the pass, with Pope being released this past offseason.

During the team's voluntary mini-camp this past weekend, Dorsett and Johnnie Harris worked at the starting safety spots. Oakland also has Derrick Gibson, the team's first-round draft pick last year.

woodson is like 37 I think now. May be a little too slow to solve Oaklands pass defense problems.
