So the Mrs and I were watching this one last night which somehow remains my favorite from all the Coen Brothers films but would acknowledge that I'm probably in the minority there. Anyway, I think the parts I like the best are Cage's silky narratives which take a deep philosophical view of his life and those around him. Holly Hunter is one my my favs as well which probably makes my selection a little biased. My wife cries when they return the baby.

So anyways, I mention to the wife how we should watch all of the Coen offerings in the coming weeks starting with No Country for Old Men then work through the others one by one. She says "Ughhh, Their movies are so weird, I don't like any of them, I'll watch them with you but I'd rather see a good Western or something". So I say OK how about we rent a western too, maybe True Grit.

She says. " Now your talking, I love that movie. She'll be wondering where John Wayne went :142smilie

Got a favorite Coen Brothers flick?

Love all the Coen Bros movies especially Fargo and No Country. I did see hail Caesar last week and didn't really care for it. Maybe start with Fargo, she should like that one more so then No Country for Old Men? :0008

Raising Arizona is one of the best comedies ever. "Would you buy furniture at Unpainted Huffhines?"

I think it's an amazing performace by not just Cage, rather the entire cast. They are all amazing. Goodman is hysterical. Fucking Glen! "l guess that's why they call it a way-homer."

Cage is great in this film, but they should have given him an Academy Award for his facial expressions alone.

"Biology and the prejudices of others conspired to keep us childless."

So - my favorite Cohen Brothers movies are.......In no particular order

The Hudsucker Proxy
The Man who Wasn't There
No Country for Old Men
Miller's Crossing
Fargo
The Big Lebowski
Intolerable Cruelty
O'Brother Where Art Thou

I can watch Ladykillers from time to time and even A Serious Man, but they aren't in my list of favorites.

Miller's Crossing (Albert Finney is the fucking man in this movie. Steals it. The scene with the fat man and his kid with the penny cracks me up)

Hudsucker (You know, for kids)

Raising Arizona is one of my top 10 movies of all time. Nathan Sr and Glen crack my ass up.

"Okay, then." & "Ahhh Buuuuulll shit." I say these lines to myself at least a couple times a week and think of this movie.

Cellmate: ...and when there was no meat, we ate fowl and when there was no fowl, we ate crawdad and when there was no crawdad to be found, we ate sand.

H.I.: You ate what?

Kansas City area for who knows how long....
These are my favorites, in descending order:

The Big Lebowski
Raising Arizona
No Country for Old Men
O Brother, Where Art Thou?
Burn After Reading
A Serious Man

so many fun details in these movies....Here is the (old Irish and Appalachian murder) ballad Holly Hunter sings as a lullaby to soothe the baby in "Raising Arizona"...Also, a version of this song by The Chieftains is excellently used in the closing credits of the TV series Fargo, season 2, episode 4.
