Johnny Damon and Manny Ramirez are returning to the AL East.
The Tampa Bay Rays have agreed to terms with both former All-Stars. Damon agreed to a one-year deal worth $5.25 million plus incentives and Ramirez one year at $2 million. Both deals are pending physicals.
Damon, 37, hit .271 laast season with a .756 OPS in 549 at-bats for the Detroit Tigers. Ramirez, 38, hit nine home runs with a .298 average and .870 OPS in 265 at-bats for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago White Sox.
Prior to 2010, Damon spent four seasons each with the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox, and Ramirez was a member of the Red Sox from 2001 to June 2007. The two were keys in leading the Red Sox in 2004 to their first World Series in 86 years.
Ramirez is a Type A free agent and Damon a Type B, but since neither player was offered arbitration, no compensatory draft picks are involved.
