Its late so I'll make this brief. . . I haven't played this game yet, but I am really liking the Rams. . . even as a 7 point favorite WITHOUT Faulk! Here's why:
Take a look at who the Jets have lost to. . . the Colts and the 49ers. . . the 1st and 4th best offenses in the league. What's interesting is that both teams have absolutely lousy defenses. . . 22nd and 21st respectively. The Colts are most similar to the Rams offensively because they rely heavily on passing the ball (over a 2 to 1 ratio). . . they crushed the Jets because of this. So even without Faulk, you have to feel confident that the Rams will be able to pass at will against the Jets because the Colts were able to and the Jets had to have been expecting the pass against the Colts.
The Rams have the 2nd best offense statistically and the 10th best defense. So basically the Rams have the superior offense like the 49ers and the Colts, but also have a strong defense statistically. Also, the Rams are much better statistically among NFL teams at defending against the run than against the pass. The Jets will not be able to open up their passing game without being able to run the ball first! The Jets may try and slow the game down to their tempo by running the ball, but I do not see them being able to stay in this game without going to the air.
I still believe the Jets are not a very good team overall, but lucky as indicated by their offensive ranking of 22 and defensive ranking of 29 in the NFL.
Of course statistics are certainly NOT everything! However, I do believe that people are making too much out of Faulk not being able to play in this game because even if the Jets focus on stopping the pass (as we can assume they will), it should not make a difference!
I will make my final decision on this play early in the morning. . . thoughts are certainly welcomed on this game!
