I thought I'd pass along a little info I got. Take it for what its worth. One of my best friends played ball with Swisher at O state and now lives in Boston and went out drinking with a bunch of the A's last night. At the beginning of the night, Blanton said he was gonna take it easy on the booze because hes pitching today but by the end of the night he was black-out, fall down drunk. Cant be feeling too hot today even though it is a night game. I'm gonna play the BoSox big on the ML and the RL and hope the sox can get to a hung over blanton

I have no idea if it's true or not but I don't know why that's so hard to believe? Professional athletes aren't exactly choirboys and they're often too dumb too worry about their public perception. Here in the Seattle area I can think of four athletes off the top of my head who were NOTORIOUS partyers... Garcia, Guillen, Kemp, Baker... and I have personally been out at Tia Lou's here in Seattle on more than one occasion when Freddy was well-lubricated despite the fact that he was pitching the next day. It wasn't exactly a secret that he loved not only that place but the Seattle nightlife in general.

Exactly. I have no idea why that is surprising at all. While they are MLB players, they are pretty normal 24, 25 year old guys. I've partied with a couple of those guys here in Columbus and they love to drink and get rowdy. Playing ball is the only job they've ever had so they don't take it quite as seriously as you might think. They really enjoy the life that comes with being a young major league player going out, drinking, having groupies all over their nuts.

I definitely believe it...I see Swish, Blanton, and Haren down at Crogans (Walnut Creek, CA) all the time whether it is the night before a game or not. On a side note I've seen Harden there a few times and he doesn't hardly drink at all. Swish and Blanton drink like fishes.

I guess people just find it hard to believe that someone who is making so much money and has so much to lose would be irresponsible in that way. But like you said, first and foremost these are young guys in their 20's. They probably liked to party before they became rich and famous, so throwing millions of dollars at them isn't going to make them more responsible, it just means they can buy better booze. :mj07:

Swish a drinker??? Oh come on, I find that hard to believe! :142smilie This isn't meant as a shot at the A's, but they are the one team that I always think of as being hard partyers. Maybe it has something to do with the line I heard Giambi use in an interview once... "play like all-stars, party like rock stars and f#ck like porn stars." Can you say, "lunatics running the asylum?!" :mj07:

You're an idiot for posting that response if you know what happened with the game at all. For one, Blanton gave up 4 ER through 7, not too bad really, but the Sox had a 4-2 lead going into the 9th bringing in one of the top 2 or 3 closers in the game the last couple years. Papelbon saves that game at least 90-95% of the time. The fact that he blows a 2 run lead in the 9th does not make me feel like I was on the wrong side of this game. I accept bad breaks like this because baseball is that kind of game.

who won?

:mj07:

Funny guy. First of all, when I said nice call I didn't mean nice call on the game. I meant nice call on the fact that Blanton was going to pitch poorly, which it looked like he was after that 1st inning. Luckily for you Papelbon imploded in the 9th against one of the worst lineups in the majors. But hey, I'm sure that's EXACTLY how you had the game capped right? You got lucky, but you're obviously too stupid to realize that as you tried to come back and talk trash.

Guess what Chachi... I didn't have money on the game either way so I really don't care that Oakland lost. But keep being an arrogant prick and saying things like "I'm doubling up on my Oakland bet now" when someone tries to give info on a game. I'm sure that will get you far genius.

GFan, I just posted a response too. Sorry about the loss. I wasn't saying the game was over by my comment, just making a joke about the fact that Blanton was getting shelled in the first inning. I wouldn't worry about that dipshit. I don't think I've ever seen him post a play so he's relegated to talking trash to try to make himself feel important. Good luck the rest of the season...

GQ- I am not worried about it at all. Losing on blown saves is something I have learned to accept after betting on baseball the last couple of years. It never ceases to irritate me, but I dont get as pissed as I used to. And I dont really give a shit what worm thought, I was just posting some information that I thought was of some use. If I knew Boston would have a 4-2 lead going into the 9th again, I would bet it 100% of the time. Appreciate the support
