REDSKINS/49ERS Under 35 ? I have always felt that you have to take a good long look at the Under in any pre season game that has a posted total above 34, and this game is no exception. Redskins management has stated publicly that they will be trying to win in the pre season, but they are also looking at 2 VERY young quarterbacks, and both of them figure to struggle at first. Remember that Washington floundered badly on offense in their first 2 pre season games last season, getting shut out at Kansas City in week 1 and then scoring just 6 points at home vs. Atlanta in week 2. They ended up averaging just 11.5 point per game in the pre season, and it remains to be seen if Steve Spurrier can carry over his offensive ingenuity from college into the pros. As for the 49ers, they have much fewer holes to fill than the Redskins, so they don?t really figure to be playing with any sense of urgency. San Francisco usually takes the pre season pretty lightly, as they are only 2-7 S/U over the past 2 years, and they only averaged 19.8 points per game in pre season last year. Obviously, they are not the type of organization that tips their hand on offense in these exhibition games, running a ?vanilla? offense until the real games begin.
