Ha! Had the same thing happen, but did not kill it, just kept it off, went to the normal hardware stores, none of them had the fucking dimensions (old sliding doors). Let it sit for 6 months then said fuck it i'll give it a go at getting it back on, little hammering, bit of prodding and oil, good as new. I did plaster the damn thing with color stickers and put a huge red X on paper in the middle of it (3 boys that kept bloody running through it!).

So far so good, 8 months later!
