John Merrick to win 31.00

I go through my whole handicapping process and come up with Merrick. I say to myself, "Heck, no one has ever heard of this guy, so I will probably get 100 or 150 to 1." Wrong. I guess people have heard of Merrick.

Round 1 plays (2pts):

Jeff Overton to beat Kavin Stadler -110 @ Five Dimes
These two journeymen pros have played a lot of events over the last 12 months, but Overton dominates the head-to-head stats: of the 27 events, Stadler has finished ahead of Overton just nine times over the whole event and just five times after the first round

Jon Mills to beat Ryan Palmer -105 @ Five Dimes
Mills' last four 1st round scores are all under 70, Palmer's last four 1st round scores include a 77 and a 78. With Palmer's poor record on this course, there is enough value in these odds to warrant a play

Nick Flanagan to beat Glen Day -105 @ Five Dimes
Day did earn a top-10 finish last week, but he has missed the last two cuts on this course and should be no match for Flanagan who has threatened to live up to his potential on a few occasions this year

Ian Leggatt to beat Robert Gamez +100 @ Five Dimes
Even Leggatt should beat Gamez who has missed his last ten cuts

Round 2 plays (2pts):

John Riegger to beat Jin Park +100 @ Five Dimes
Good odds to back Reigger who was better tee-to-green than Park yesterday and has finished behind him only twice in their last nine common events

Mattias Gronberg to beat Craig Kanada -110 @ Five Dimes
Expecting Gronberg to maintain his good form at Montreux - he has three decent finishes in the last three years here and currently lies in 6th place. Kanada finished nine shots behind him last year and is already three shots behind after the 1st round

Charley Hoffman to beat Nicholas Thompson -110 @ Five Dimes
A top-30 finish last week was an indicator that Hoffman's game is returning and he did play well yesterday, ranking in the top-10 for driving distance and greens in regulation. If his form continues, the UNLV graduate should be able to beat Thompson again today

Round 3 play (2pts):

Bob Estes to beat Brian Davis -118 @ Unibet
Opposing Davis who is not particularly good in this situation - he has been 2nd or 3rd nine times after 36 holes on Tour, but he has yet to shoot less than 70 in the 3rd round and that includes last week's Canadian Open. Even when not in the leading groups, he has struggled on Saturdays, shooting a lower 3rd round score than Estes just three times out of 14 attempts since the start of last season

Round 4 plays (2pts):

Brian Davis to beat Parker McLachlin -122 @ Five Dimes
John Rollins to beat Parker McLachlin -137 @ Unibet
Davis, 2nd, lies six shots behind McLachlin and Rollins, 3rd, lies ten shots behind McLachlin ... they have no chance of victory, right? History suggests otherwise. McLachlin has only held the 54-hole lead once previously when he headed into the final round of the 2007 Pete Dye Classic with a SEVEN shot lead ... he'd lost the lead to playing partner Jimmy Walker by just the eighth hole and eventually finished in 4th place, 3 shots behind Walker. It may only take a couple of early bogeys to make the pressure of repeating that performance become unbearable for McLachlin
