What a day.Thought I would say somethings I saw today at US Open.
Arrived at Shinnicock at about 6.30 am this morning. We had VIP passes and we had NYPD finest deliver us from our parked cars.One of my buddies in my group is "big time" in NYPD.
It was cool in the am but by 11.00 am we were dying.
Got to see so many great players.We were talking to Fred Funk while he was at the practice green.And he played well today.
Mickelson was great.I'm not a big Mickelson fan but he worked the crowd.After finishing the 5th or 6th hole while he was walking to the tee he yelled at a kid in front of him'hey kid...hey.." The kid wasn't paying attention trying to get to a spot to see Phil tee off.Finally the kid turned and realized it was Phil.Phill just threw him the ball.The kid went nuts.Everyone around was laughing.
Marayama can freak'in hit.We watched him on several holes.
But Cabrera was the guy who impressed me the most today.What a stroke and can hit hit long.I'll be honest with ya'll.I never heard of him.He was -5 most of the day but must of blown some holes later.
Els hit the best shot off the tee.Weir is so skinny and yet his ball takes off.we watched him on the practice tee.Unreal."Hook one,slice one,c'mon man"He just nailed everyone 250 yds down the middle.
We saw Verplank on 7.Not sure if they showed that on TV.Ball bounced back to him twice from the bunker.
The 7th hole is called the 'redown or redoubt.Its the toughest par 3.Nobody can stick the green.We watched player after player hit a great shot by the flag and the ball roll off.
Tiger was in a bad move.We saw him tee off on his 1st shot.He was pissed.Then as he walked by us someone yelled out"why don't you learn to hit it left handed" in reference to Phil leading.Tiger looked in the crowd,shook his head and walked on.
Followed Els and DiMarco for 2 holes.Howell can hit.Herron was great.If he was in the consession line with you, you would never know he was a golfer.Way out of shape but that doesn't mean didly...he can stroke it.C. Parry was the same way.
Faldo,Love,Couples all played bad.Couples was pissed all day.He had an attitude.Tway,Leonard, played bad.
I liked Michael Campbell.The new zelander.He hit the ball 330 yds on his drives.What a great guy.We followed him on one hole and he talked to us.Think he got cut but he did good today.
It was so hot in the afternoon.

Anyway had a great day.You guys saw more on TV.I got home and I got to see some of the hi-lites and shots we never saw.It's ironic...I'm there but see less...
You can have Long Island though.One road to get to Shinnicock.And about 35,000 people driving to it.
